Full Text | FORM-2 THE PATENT ACT, 1970 (39 of 1970) & THE PATENT RULES, 2003 PROVISIONAL SPECIFICATION (See section 10 and Rule 13) PROCESS FOR MAKING PHARMACOLOGICALLY ACTIVE SALTS OF THEREONIC ACID DR. WADER GURUPRASAD RAMCHANDRA An Indian National of 202, white Rose Apartments, Behind Kalyan Cafe, Fatchgunj Baroda-390 002, Gujarat, India And SHAH DHARMESH MAHENDRABHAI An Indian National Of 2301,2401, Sterling Towers, Gamdevi, Mumbai-400 007, Maharashtra, India. THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION DESCRIBES THE INVENTION FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a novel efficient manufacturing process for the preparation of pharmacologically active salts of Threonic Acid. It is an object of the present invention to provide a novel and industrially applicable process for the preparation and isolation, hitherto unreported in the prior art, of pharmacologically active salts of Threonic Acid. Clacium Threonate: Superactive Vitamin-C [Ester-C, Bio VC-Ca, BioCalth] contains its important metabolite called L-threonicacid. Calcium salt of L-Threonic acid is called Calcuium Threonate which has improved absorption rate to an impressive 95% over conventional Calcium supplements. The minerals from L-Threonic acid salts are delivered through the intestival mocosa, thus improving the bioavailability. It has other potential pharmacological activities. 2 Threonic acid RN: 3909-12-4 MW: 136.102 Calcium Threonate Chemical Name: 2,3,4-Trihydroxy (threo)-Butanoic acid Calcium Salt Sterio chemistry: Threonic acide, (R-(R*, S*))-isomer. CAS Reg No.: 3909-12-4 Background of the invention Super active Vitamin-C is very popular in Europe and USA for its quick action and additional activity against Osteoporosis. It is specially recommended for women having post menopausal complications. We have developed specialized process to produce Calcuim Threonate from very cheap and industrially available R.M. Calcium Threonate can be used as a specialized Calcium Suppliment product for pharma sector. It can be converted to CHROMIUM THREONATE for use in Diabetic theraphy. By making use of it's natural Chiral structure Calcuim Threonate can be further converted by employing standard industrial chemical operations into steriospecific intermediates useful in making Statin side chains in cost effective manner. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is the object of the invention to eliminate the drawbacks of the known procedures and to provide a simple and economically feasible process for the preparation of high purity and uniformly stable pharmacologically active salts of Threonic Acid. The above object is solved by the following process of the invention. 3 DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The object of the present invention is achieved by a process for the preparation of stable pharmacologically active salts of Threonic Acid, which comprises: Gluconic Acid solution is subjected for continuous oxidation and converted into L-Threonic Acid solution. It is then converted to various salts of L-Threonic Acid. All the products have been characterized by their specific XRD graphs, FT IR spectra HPCL analysis and other physical parameters.
