PLASTIC END PARTS FOR SYMMETRICAL LADDER TYPE (L TYPE) SYNTHETIC ZIP FASTENER

Abstract The present invention relates to a symmetrical (or) also called Ladder/L-type zip fasteners and more particularly to such symmetrical / L-type zip fasteners including integrated plastic end parts such as bottom stops, top stops, separable open end parts etc. Advantageously, the fasteners of the inventions are directed to take care of problems of provision of the end parts independent of the zipper chain/interlocking elements which affect performance and functioning of zip fasteners. The invention is thus directed to provide for zip fasteners which would be simple and convenient to use and also provide for better durability and strength of such fasteners.

PLASTIC END PARTS FOR SYMMETRICAL LADDER TYPE (L TYPE) SYNTHETIC ZIP FASTENER
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a symmetrical (or) also called Ladder/L-type zip fasteners
and more particularly to such symmetrical / L-type zip fasteners including integrated plastic end parts such as bottom stops, top stops, separable open end parts etc. wherein the interlocking elements such as the scoops or teeth of the L-type coil are embedded into the plastic end parts. Advantageously, the fasteners of the inventions are directed to take care of problems of provision of the end parts independent of the zipper chain/interlocking elements which affect performance and functioning of zip fasteners. The invention is thus directed to provide for zip fasteners which would be simple and convenient to use and also provide for better durability and strength of such fasteners.
BACKGROUND ART
It is presently known to have zip fasteners wherein the plastic end parts (moulded) fixed on
the zipper are provided. However, such known forms of provision of the plastic end parts on zippers are found to have some deficiencies and limitations in effective functioning and performance of such zippers. In particular, it is known that when the end parts viz. the Top Stops, Bottom Stops, separable open end parts are fixed outside the chain of the zip fasteners in such a way that these end parts either touch the interlocking elements or there is a small gap between these parts and the interlocking elements. Due to such positioning of the plastic end parts independent of the zipper chain/interlocking elements, the performance and functioning of the zip fasteners get affected.

As regards such known provision of Tops Stops, when there is a gap between the last scoop and plastic moulded Top Stops, the slider is likely to get stuck at the top end of the zipper which necessarily affected the functioning of the fasteners. Also, in such known provision of such Top Stops independent of chain/interlocking elements, its strength get affected and the fasteners strength is poor.
Likewise, when there is a gap between the last scoop and the plastic moulded Bottom Stops as provided in conventional fasteners, there is a tendency for the chain to get open at the bottom end and if that happens, its functioning again gets affected. Moreover, the provision of Bottom parts independent of the chain/interlocking elements results in poor strength of the fasteners.
As regards the separable open end parts of such conventional zip fasteners, the open end parts used in the open end/separator zippers (of one way or two way opening types) consists of mainly two components viz. pins and box. When there is a gap between these end parts and the last scoop of the zipper chain, the interlocking elements, on either side of the chain do not get aligned when slider is pulled for joining two stringers which again is found to impair the functioning of zippers as the chain opens at the bottom. Moreover, in such case the gap between the end parts and chain reduces the lateral strength of open end/separator zip fasteners.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is thus the basic object of the present invention to provide for symmetrical ladder type (L-
type) zip fasteners involving the plastic end parts viz. Top Stops, Bottom Stops and separable open parts securely and integrally held with respect to the interlocking elements of such fasteners such that it would facilitate the performance and functioning of the zip fasteners and

would avoid the problems and complexities in use and application of the conventional zip fasteners as discussed above.
Another object of the present invention is directed to plastic end parts for symmetrical ladder type (L-type) synthetic zip fasteners which would facilitate the performance and functioning of zip fasteners and provide the required strength for the Top Stops, Bottom Stops whereby the fasteners can be conveniently used repeatedly without damage to the fasteners or to its Stop members
A further object of the present invention is directed to plastic moulded end parts for L-type zippers which would be simple and cost effective to provide on the zippers thereby facilitating the provision of zip fasteners which would be simple to obtain and also benefit effective performance and functioning of the zip fasteners.
Another object of the present invention is directed to zip fasteners and in particular, to zip fasteners involving plastic end parts which are integral part of the zipper chain to thereby improve substantially the adherence strength of the Stop members with respect to zipper chain by forming integral part of the zipper chain.
A further object of the present invention is directed to the development and integration of plastic end parts such as Bottom Stops, Top Stops, separable open end parts etc such that the interlocking elements also known as scoop or teeth of the L-type coil are embedded into the plastic end parts.
Another object of the present invention is directed to the development and performance of L-type zip fasteners significantly apart from further enhancing significantly its aesthetics look and purpose.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Thus according to the basic aspect of the present invention there is provided a symmetrical
ladder type (L Type) zip fastener comprising:
a. a pair of stringers each having a tape with continuous interlocking elements
or scoops secured along one of its longitudinal edges opposite to other
stringer tape;
b. a slider that slides along said longitudinal interlocking elements or scoops;
and
c. end parts comprising plurality of top stopper provided at fastener's top end;
and a bottom stopper provided at fastener's bottom end,
wherein, the end parts are structurally integrated with said interlocking elements or
scoops.
In accordance with an aspect of the present invention in the symmetrical ladder type zip fastener the bottom stopper is selected from closed end type and a two piece open end type with "box and pin" arrangement.
The end parts are made of plastic or polymer material with the said top and bottom stoppers embedded with interlocking elements.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention in the symmetrical ladder type zip fastener the said top stopper is molded with interlocking elements in such a way that it encases and covers the scoops at both front and back side of the zipper tape. Also, the said bottom stopper is molded with interlocking elements in such a way that it encases and covers the scoops at both front and back side of the zipper tape.
In case the said bottom stopper is of two piece open end type with box and pin arrangement the box and pin are also embedded with interlocking element. Alternatively,

box and pin are moulded with interlocking elements in such a way that in encases and covers the scoops at both front and back of the zipper.
In accordance with a further aspect of the invention, in the A Synthetic "L" type slide fastener the coil is stitched to the tape or Woven along with the tape.
The tape means in the fastener of the invention is made of textile either Woven or Knitted. Alternatively, the tape can also be made of plastic film/sheet.
In accordance with a preferred aspect of the invention, the fastener is provided with protective coatings for flame retardancy, water resistancy and resistant to Acid, Alkali, Corrosion, UV radiation and Infra red radiation. Selectively, the fastener is with or without protective tape / lace on either or both obverse and reverse faces.
It is thus possible by way of the above disclosed symmetrical ladder type (L-type) zip fasteners which would avoid the problems and limitations of the end stops in conventional zip fasteners. In particular, the present invention by way of the development and integration of plastic moulded end parts viz. Top Stops, Bottom Stops and open end parts are integrally formed with respect to at least one of the interlocking elements which is directed to serve better the performance and functioning of the zip fasteners and the like discussed above.
As detailed above in accordance with the preferred aspect the plastic end parts of the zip fasteners of the invention is directed to provide the same as an integral parts of the zipper chain and thereby the adherence strength of the stopper with respect to the zipper chain/interlocking elements/scoop is enhanced for better and wide scale user friendly application and use of such L-type zip fasteners.

In accordance with another aspect of the invention the integral connection of the stop member with respect to the interlocking elements in zip fasteners and the like can be selectively provided such that one or more interlocking elements/scoops at the end of the zipper chain are embedded into such plastic moulded stop members. Preferably, the plastic Bottom Stops are fixed / moulded over the interlocking elements / scoops in such a way that it encases and covers the scoops at both front and back side of the L-type zip fasteners. Such a provision of the plastic moulded end stop members with respect to the interlocking elements of the zip fasteners is directed to enhance the adherence strength of the stops with respect to the zip fasteners apart from providing for desire comfort in the functioning and performance of the zip fasteners.
The details of the invention, its objects and advantages are explained hereunder in greater detail in relation to non-limiting exemplary illustrations as per the following accompanying
figures:

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMAPANYING FIGURES:
As discussed herein before it is well know to provide plastic end parts (moulded) fixed on the zipper
wherein the end parts viz. the Top Stops, Bottom Stops, separable open end parts, etc. are fixed outside the chain of zip fastener in such a way that these end parts either touch the interlocking elements or there is a small gap between these parts and the interlocking elements. Thus the plastic end parts are independent of the zipper chain/ inter locking elements. Due to this the performance & functioning of zip fastener gets affected as detailed below:
Reference is first invited to accompanying figure 1 wherein TOP STOPS as presently available in zippers is illustrated. As apparent from said figure 1, there is gap between the last scoop and the plastic moulded top stop the slider in such known arrangements which are likely to get stuck at the top end of zipper. Thus in such conventional top stopper provision in zippers thereby the functioning of fastener get affected. Also considering that the Top Stop is independent of chain/ interlocking elements, its strength is poor.
Reference is now invited to figure 2 which shows the BOTTOM STOPS in zippers as presently provided and made available in the art. As illustrated in said figure 2 when there is gap between the last scoop and plastic moulded bottom stop there is tendency for the chain to get opened at the bottom end and if that happens its functioning gets affected. Moreover, since such bottom part is independent of chain / interlocking elements, its strength is poor.

The SEPARABLE OPEN END PARTS also known to be provided in conventional zippers is shown in figure 3.In such separable open end parts used in the open end / separator zippers (of one way or two way opening types) the same is known to consists of mainly two components viz. pins and box. In such know variety of end parts when there is gap between these end parts and the last scoop of zipper chain, the interlocking elements, on either side of the chain do not get aligned when slider is pulled for joining thus restricting the movement of slider for closing the fastener (as shown in Fig.3) and this impairs the functioning of zipper as the chain opens at the bottom (as shown in Fig. 4). Also the gap between the end parts and chain reduces the lateral strength of Open end / separator zip fasteners.
The present invention and the end parts/stop members for zippers proposed in accordance with the invention is directed to avoid the afore discussed limitations of stoppers/end parts of conventional zippers and integrate the plastic end parts namely top stop, bottom stop and separable open parts for symmetrical (L type), synthetic zip fastener in such a way that it overcomes all the above stated defects. According to the present invention the problems encountered in current L type zippers with plastic moulded end parts are overcome which are illustrated in greater detail in relation to accompanying figures 5 to 8.
In accordance with the present invention described hereunder in detail, all the plastic end parts of zippers viz. Top stops, Bottom stops, separable open parts (Pins & boxes) etc. of the symmetrical (L type) synthetic zip fasteners are embedded with the interlocking elements / scoops of the zipper chain. With this invention, the problems encountered in the current L type synthetic zip fasteners with plastic end parts, as described above is overcome. Further the plastic end parts are fixed / moulded over the interlocking elements / scoops in such a way that it encases & covers the scoops at both front & back side of the L type zip fasteners. Thus under this invention, the plastic end parts becomes integral part of the zipper chain and thereby its adherence strength improves substantially. This improves the functioning & performance of L type zip fasteners significantly as well as its aesthetics.

Reference is invited to accompanying figure 5 which shows the Plastic Top stops in accordance with the invention adapted and placed in such a way that one or more interlocking elements at the end of zipper chain are embedded into such plastic moulded top stops. Further the Plastic top stops are fixed / moulded over the interlocking elements / scoops in such a way that it encases and covers the scoops at both front & back side of the L type zip fastener as shown in sectional view of Fig.5. Thus the Top stops become structurally integral part of zipper chain and thereby its adherence strength improves substantially. Also in accordance with such embodiment of the stopper, the slider will not get stuck as the chain will always be in open condition inside the slider as further shown in Fig. 6. Therefore with this invention, the functioning and performance of L type zip fasteners improves significantly as well as its aesthetics & appearance.
Reference is invited to accompanying figure 7 which shows that the Plastic Bottom stops of the invention are adapted and placed in such a way that one or more interlocking elements at the end of zipper chain are embedded into such plastic moulded bottom stops. Further the Plastic bottom stops are fixed / moulded over the interlocking elements / scoops in such a way that it encases and covers the scoops at both front & back side of the L type zip fastener. Thus the Bottom stops become integral part of zipper chain and thereby its adherence strength improves substantially. Further, this stop according to this embodiment prevents the chain opening at bottom end as shown in Fig. 7. Therefore with this invention, the functioning and performance of L type zip fasteners improves significantly as well as its aesthetics & appearance.
Reference is now invited to accompanying figure 8 which illustrates the separable open parts viz. Box and / or pin(s), of one or two way type open end L type zip fastener, which are adapted and placed in such a way that one or more interlocking elements at the end of zipper chain are embedded into such plastic moulded separable open parts. the interlocking elements / scoops in such a way that it encases and covers the scoops at both front & back side of the L type zip fastener. Thus the separable open parts become integral part of zipper chain and thereby its adherence strength improves substantially. Further while placing the end parts, the interlocking elements of the chain is positioned in such a way that it locks the elements of the opposite side properly as shown in Fig.8 and thereby the zip closing is smooth. Therefore with this invention, the functioning and performance of L type zip fasteners improves significantly as well as its aesthetics & appearance.
It is thus possible by way of the present invention to provide for symmetrical ladder type (L-type) zip
fasteners involving the plastic end parts viz. Top Stops, Bottom Stops and separable open parts
securely and integrally held with respect to the interlocking elements of such fasteners such that it
would facilitate the performance and functioning of the zip fasteners. The present invention would
further favour the development and performance of L-type zip fasteners significantly apart from
further enhancing significantly its aesthetics look and purpose.

We Claim:
1. A symmetrical ladder type (L Type) zip fastener comprising:
a. a pair of stringers each having a tape with continuous interlocking elements or scoops secured along one of its longitudinal edges opposite to other stringer tape;
b. a slider that slides along said longitudinal interlocking elements or scoops;
and
c. end parts comprising plurality of top stopper provided at fastener's top end;
and a bottom stopper provided at fastener's bottom end,
wherein, the end parts are structurally integrated with said interlocking elements or scoops.
2. A symmetrical ladder type zip fastener of claim 1, wherein the bottom stopper is closed end type.
3. A symmetrical ladder type zip fastener of claim 1, wherein said bottom stopper is of a two piece open end type with "box and pin" arrangement.

4. A symmetrical ladder type zip fastener of claim 1, wherein the end parts are made of plastic or polymer material.
5. A symmetrical ladder type zip fastener of claim 1, wherein said top stopper is embedded with interlocking elements.
6. A symmetrical ladder type zip fastener of claim 1, wherein said bottom stopper is
embedded with interlocking elements.
7. A symmetrical ladder type zip fastener of claim 1, wherein said top stopper is molded with
interlocking elements in such a way that it encases and covers the scoops at both front and
back side of the zipper tape.
8. A symmetrical ladder type zip fastener of claim 1, wherein said bottom stopper is molded
with interlocking elements in such a way that it encases and covers the scoops at both front
and back side of the zipper tape.

9. A symmetrical ladder type zip fastener of claim 1, wherein said bottom stopper is of two piece open end type with box and pin arrangement and box and pin are embedded with interlocking element.
10. A symmetrical ladder type zip fastener of claim 1, wherein said bottom stopper is of two piece open end type with box and pin arrangement and box and pin are moulded with interlocking elements in such a way that in encases and covers the scoops at both front and back of the zipper.
11. A Synthetic "L" type slide fastener as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the coil is stitched to the tape or Woven along with the tape.
12. A Synthetic "L" type slide fastener as claimed in anyone of claims 1 to 11 wherein the tape is made of textile either Woven or Knitted.

13. A Synthetic "L" type slide fastener as claimed in anyone of claim 1 to 11 wherein the tape is made of plastic film / sheet.
14. A Synthetic "L" type slide fastener as claimed in anyone of claims 1 to 13 wherein the fastener is provided with protective coatings for flame retardancy, water resistancy and resistant to Acid, Alkali, Corrosion, UV radiation and Infra red radiation.
15. A Synthetic "L" type slide fastener as claimed in anyone of claims 1 to 14 wherein the fastener is with or without protective tape / lace on either or both obverse and reverse faces.
16. A symmetrical ladder type (L Type) fastener substantially as herein described and
illustrated with the reference to the accompanying figures.
