Abstract The present invention provides a personal handy phone system, which comprises a communication system in the home location and a communication system in the visit location at least, both the said communication system in the home location and the said communication system in the visit location comprise a base transceiver station, a base station controller, a local exchange, and a roaming manager; the said base transceiver station, base station controller, and local exchange compose an ordinary wireless access phone system, the said roaming manager links up with the said base station controller so as to control the said base station controller to carry out an instruction for call transfer; the said respective roaming managers in the home location and in the visit location are connected with Ethernet. The present invention greatly reduces the complexity of roaming solution of mobile station. With avoiding the problems of establishing telephone channel between base stations, the present invention decreases the amount of the devices, which are required in the establishment of telephone channel. The cost of the system is reduced accordingly. In addition, the present invention takes full advantage of the function of call transfer, which is applied to the former systems and has a stable performance; consequently the stability of the system provided by the present invention is increased.
Full Text Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to the mobile communication system, especially to a new personal handy phone system (PHS) and roaming method in the same.
Background of the Invention
In the existing PHS of mobile communication system field, especially in the PHS which is based upon a local exchange, mobile station can't be implemented to roam between base station systems. However, along with unceasing increase of PHS capacity, when the capacity of one base station system become insufficient to cover a city, a plurality of base station systems are needed to cover the city jointly. At this rate, when a mobile station roams in the city, a problem of roaming between a plurality of base station systems is likely to occur accordingly.
At present, a traditional mobile station's roaming in a GSM or CDMA system is implemented via the method that a mobile switching center on the switch end administers a mobile station's positional information. But in a PHS, a local exchange serves as the switch end which has no any function to administer a mobile station's location. Accordingly up to now, mobile station's roaming between base station systems cannot be implemented by PHS based on the local exchange. How to provide a simple and effective method for mobile station's roaming between a plurality of base station systems is an urgent problem to resolve.
Summary of the Invention
The present invention provides a method for resolving the foregoing technical problems, namely a new personal handy phone system (PHS) and its roaming method. By the system and method, the roaming between base station systems in a PHS based on a local exchange will be implemented successfully.
The PHS referred to in the present invention includes a communication system in the home location and a communication system in the visit location. Both the said communication system in the home location and the said communication system in the visit location comprise a base transceiver station, a base station controller, a local exchange, and a roaming manager; the said base transceiver station, base station controller, and local exchange compose an ordinary wireless access phone system; the said roaming manager links up with the said base station controller so as to control the said base station controller to carry out an instruction for call transfer; the said respective roaming managers in the home location and in the visit location are connected with Ethernet.
The implementing roaming method of the present invention in PHS includes as follows:
the base station system in the visit location notifies the base station system in the home location to set a call transfer on the local exchange in the home location, on which the destination number transferred falls within the range of the number provided by the local exchange in the visit location, when a mobile station makes a roaming registration;
the local exchange in the home location transfers the calling to the local exchange in the visit location automatically according to the previously set number for call transfer when a mobile station is called in roaming, and then the local exchange in the visit location carries out the calling via a normal calling process.
The said roaming registration of a mobile station further includes steps as follows:
the base station controller in the visit location receives a request for roaming registration from a mobile station;
the base station controller in the visit location informs the roaming manager in the visit location of the request for roaming registration;
the roaming manager in the visit location informs the roaming manager in the home location which the said mobile station belonged to of a request for roaming registration from the mobile station;
the roaming manager in the home location notifies the base station controller in the home location to set a call transfer of a number, which is of the base station system in the visit location, on the exchange in the home location, and subsequently reserves position information of the said mobile station;
the roaming manager in the home location sends a response for authentication to the roaming manager in the visit location;
the roaming manager in the visit location reserves the subscription information of the said mobile station.
The calling process in roaming of the said mobile station includes the steps as follows:
the local exchange in the home location receives a request for calling from a mobile station;
the local exchange in the home location transfers the request for calling to the local exchange in the visit location;
the local exchange in the visit location transfers the calling request to the base station controller in the visit location;
the base station controller in the visit location sends a request for authentication of the mobile station in roaming to the roaming manager in the visit location;
after authentication, the base station controller in the visit location carries out the following calling process.
The roaming method provided by the present invention further comprises an initiating calling process in roaming as follows:
a mobile station sends a request for initiating calling in roaming to the base station controller in the visit location;
the base station controller in the visit location sends a request for authentication of the mobile station to the roaming manager in the visit location;
the base station controller in the visit location carries out the following calling process when the authentication passed
The new system and roaming method provided by the present invention reduces greatly complexity of roaming solution of mobile station, accordingly shortens the exploitation's period, and saves the cost of exploitation. With avoiding the problems of establishing telephone channel between the base stations, the present invention decreases the amount of the devices, which are required in the establishment of telephone channel. The cost of the system is reduced accordingly. In addition, the present invention takes full advantage of the function of call transfer, which is applied to the former systems and has a stable performance; consequently the stability of the system provided by the present invention is increased.

Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments
Hereinafter in accordance with the figures and embodiments, the solution provided by the present invention is disclosed in detail as to the PHS based on a local exchange and its roaming implementing method.
The PHS and its roaming method is a simple and effective solution for roaming. It is via call transfer to implement roaming function between base station systems for mobile station. Through call transfer of mobile station, roaming calling of mobile station is carried out automatically by a local exchange. It is a transparent process to base station system. In order that initiating calling in roaming of mobile station can be carried out through a normal process, it is needed merely to add a simple mobile authentication to mobile station in the calling process.
Figure 1 shows an embodiment of PHS in the present invention. In the embodiment, the communication system in the home location comprises a base transceiver station BTS1, a base station controller BSC1, a local exchange 1, and a roaming manager. The communication system in the visit location comprises a base transceiver station BTS2, a base station controller BSC2, a local exchange 2, and a roaming manager. Both the local exchange 1 and the local exchange 2 are linked to a larger local exchange; a mobile station is located in the communication system in the visit location. In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, the implementation of roaming primarily relates to two parts of communication system in the home location and in the visit location: a roaming manager, which manages the position information of mobile station, and a foreground agent module of the base station (not shown in figures). The roaming manager takes charge of mobile information of mobile station; the roaming manager in the home location and the roaming manager in the visit location are linked with Ethernet so as to communicate with each other. The foreground agent module of the base station takes charge of interfacing with an operation course of foreground, provides mobile information of mobile station to the operation course of foreground, forwards the mobile station's registration message, the initiating calling message, and calling message from operation course to the roaming manager, and then forwards the request of setting call transfer and the mobile information coming from the roaming manager to the operation course.
The implementing roaming method of the present invention takes full advantage of the call transfer function in a local exchange. When a mobile station makes a roaming registration, the base station system 2 in the visit location notifies the base station system 1 in the home location to set a call transfer on the local exchange 1 in the home location. The transferred destination number falls within the range of the number provided by the local exchange 2 in the visit location. When the mobile station in roaming is called, the local exchange 1 in the home location automatically transfers the calling to the local exchange 2 in the visit location, and then the local exchange 2 in the visit location completes the calling according to the normal calling process. During this course, no any base station takes part in the implementation of roaming calling, which is the most complicated and difficult phase in the course of roaming function's implementation on base station end. It is through the solution provided by the present invention to implement a transparent process for mobile station's roaming in base station systems.
The operation course referred to in above embodiment means a foreground course, which completes the initiating calling of a mobile station and the called process in a PHS.
In Figure 2 showing a roaming registration course of a mobile station, the course relates to the roaming manager in the visit location, the base station controller in the visit location BSC2, the local exchange LEI in the home location, the base station controller BSC1 in the home location, and the roaming manager in the home location in a PHS. The details are as follows:
a. A roaming mobile station initiates a request for roaming registration to the base
station controller BSC2 in the visit location;
b. the base station controller BSC2 in the visit location makes a registration
authentication to the roaming manager in the visit location; the roaming manager in the
visit location distributes a temporary number for roaming to the mobile station in
roaming, and then notifies the roaming manager in the home location;
c. the roaming manager in the home location reserves the roaming information of the
mobile station, and then transfers the temporary number of the roaming mobile station to
the base station controller BSC1 in the home location; once the base station controller
BSC1 in the home location receives the temporary number by the local exchange LEI in
the home location, it sets the call transfer on the roaming temporary number for roaming
mobile station;
d. the roaming manager in the home location makes a response for roaming
registration to the roaming manager in the visit location; the roaming manager in the visit
location makes a response for roaming registration authentication to the base station
controller BSC2 in the visit location; finally, the base station controller BSC2 in the visit
location makes a response for roaming registration to the roaming mobile station.
Through above steps, the course of roaming registration of mobile station can be completed.
Figure 3 indicates the course of initiating calling of a roaming mobile station. The course relates to the roaming manager in the visit location, the base station controller BSC2 in the visit location, the local exchange LE2 in the visit location in a PHS. The details are as follows:
a. A roaming mobile station initiates a request for roaming calling to the base station
controller BSC2 in the visit location;
b. The base station controller BSC2 in the visit location initiates a request for
authentication to the roaming manager in the visit location; after authentication passed,
the base station controller BSC2 in the visit location completes the rest of calling process.
Figure 4 is shown as a flow chart for indicating the course of a mobile station as a calling destination. The course relates to the roaming manager in the visit location, the base station controller BSC2 in the visit location, the local exchange LE2 in the visit
location, the local exchange LEI in the home location in a PHS. The details are as follows:
a. The local exchange LEI in the home location receives a request for calling a
roaming mobile station, and then converts the calling request to a calling request for a
temporary number of a roaming mobile station, which is sent to the local exchange LE2
in the visit location;
b. the local exchange LE2 in the visit location initiates a calling request to the base
station controller BSC2 in the visit location, after it receives a calling request for the
temporary number to a roaming mobile station;
c. the base station controller BSC2 in the visit location, with an authentication
passed by a roaming manager in the visit location, obtains original information of a
roaming mobile station, subsequently completes the rest of calling course.
In the present invention, it is by a base station controller BSC2 in the visit location that distributes temporary numbers of call transfer dynamically. When the system established, at the end of local exchange, a group of numbers are preserved in advance for call transfer. A resource of 1,000 roaming numbers is preserved for 30,000 users. The roaming manager reserves speech log of roaming mobile station so as to deal with account issue. In accordance with the format requirement of tally center, the speech log is submitted to the center; alternatively, a fixed number can be distributed in the visit location for the mobile station. Finally, the fee sum can be obtained through incorporation of all the numbers of the mobile station.
In the end, it should be declared that the above-mentioned embodiments are employed to describe the solution of the present invention. It should not be apprehended to a restriction. Although the preferable embodiment is referred to disclose the present invention in detail, a person skilled in the relevant field of technology should apprehend that, to amend or to displace the mentioned solution of the present invention still falls within spirit and scope of the present invention, and should still be covered in the claims of the present invention.



We claim:
1. A personal handy phone system (PHS) comprising of:
a communication system in the home location having a base transceiver station (BTS1), a base station controller (BSC1), a local exchange (LE1), which is an ordinary wireless access phone system;
a communication system in the visit location having a base transceiver station (BSS2), a base station controller (BSC2), a local exchange (LE2), which is an ordinary wireless access phone system;
characterized in that both the said communication system in the home location and the said communication system in the visit location also have a roaming manager; the said roaming manager links up with the said base station controller so as to control the said base station controller to carry out an instruction for call transfer; and the said respective roaming managers in the home location and in the visit location are connected with Ethernet.
2. The roaming method in personal handy phone system (PHS) as claimed in claim
1, having the steps of:
the base station system in the visit location notifying the base station system in the home location to set a call transfer on the local exchange in the home location, on which the destination number transferred falls within the range of the number provided by the local exchange in the visit location, when a mobile station making a roaming registration;
the local exchange in the home location transferring the calling to the local exchange in the visit location automatically according to the previously set number for call transfer when a mobile station is called in roaming, and then the local exchange in the visit location carrying out the calling via a normal calling process.
3. The roaming method in personal handy phone system as claimed in claim 2,
wherein the said course of roaming registration of a mobile station having the steps of:
a) the base station controller in the visit location receives a request for roaming
registration from a mobile station;
b) the base station controller in the visit location informs the roaming manager in the
visit location of the request for roaming registration;
c) the roaming manager in the visit location informs the roaming manager in the
home location which the said mobile station belonged to of a request for roaming
registration from the mobile station;
d) the roaming manager in the home location notifies the base station controller in
the home location to set a call transfer of a number, which is of the base station system in
the visit location, on the exchange in the home location, and subsequently reserves
position information of the said mobile station;
e) the roaming manager in the home location sends a response for authentication to
the roaming manager in the visit location;
f) the roaming manager in the visit location reserves the subscription information of
the said mobile station.

4. The roaming method in personal handy phone system as claimed in claim 3,
wherein before the said step 3, the said method also has the step of the roaming manager
in the visit location distributing a temporary number for roaming to the mobile station.
5. The roaming method in personal handy phone system as claimed in claim 3,
wherein the step (d) of claim 3 also includes:
a. the roaming manager in the home location transferring the temporary number of
the roaming mobile station to the base station controller in the home location;
b. the base station controller in the home location setting the call transfer on the
temporary number for roaming mobile station by the local exchange in the home location.
6. The roaming method in personal handy phone system as claimed in claim 2,
wherein the said calling process in roaming of the said mobile station having the steps of:
a) the local exchange in the home location receives a request for calling from a
mobile station;
b) the local exchange in the home location transfers the request for calling to the
local exchange in the visit location;
c) the local exchange in the visit location transfers the calling request to the base
station controller in the visit location;
d) the base station controller in the visit location sends a request for authentication
of the mobile station in roaming to the roaming manager in the visit location;
e) after authentication, the base station controller in the visit location carries out the
following calling process.
7. The roaming method in personal handy phone system as claimed in claim 2,
wherein the said method also has a course of initiating calling of roaming mobile station,
the steps of which are:
the mobile station sends a request for initiating calling in roaming to the base station controller in the visit location;
the base station controller in the visit location sends a request for authentication of the mobile station to the roaming manager in the visit location;
the base station controller in the visit location carries out the following calling process when the authentication passed.
