Full Text FIELD OF INVENTION
The invention relates to an improved split type spring plate which is ;used in Hydrogenerators.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
In some of the hydrogenerator designs, it is necessary to provide spring plate in two halves. Function of the spring plate is to support thrust bearing load of the machine under oprating conditions. Complete thrust bearing and spring plate is immersed in Iubricating oil and the lubricating oil must not leak through the spring plate joints.
Generally, spring plate joints are made leak proof by manual scrapping and blue matching with standard surface plates which is not a fool proof method and it takes a long time to achieve perfect contact between the mating surfaces.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide an improved split type spring plate in which leak-proof joinnig of the spring segments can be achieved.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved split type spring plate which can be easily manufactured within a reduced manufacturing cycle time.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide an improved split type spring plate replacing the manual scrapping and blue matching operation by a reliable machine made 'O' seal groove.
Yet a further object of the invention is to provide an improved split type spring plate which eliminates the use of a surface plate.
SUMMARYOF THE INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a split type spring plate tor supporting the operative load of the thrust hearing of a generator shaft (s) in a hydrogenerator. comprising two spring plate segments each ha\ing two joint flanges lor releasably coupling to each other; with two locating dowel to accurately locale said spring. plate segments with respect to their center hne a plurality of lilting bolts tor locating said two spring segments con-esponding to the located relative position; and a plurality of joint tightening bolls in substantially equally spaced relationship to each other for rigidly lightening the segments in registrauon with said position located by said fitting bolts, characterized in that one of said two spring plate segments being provi, ied v.ith an accurately machined 'O' seal groove on each of its joint face extending axially along the outer surface thereof accommodating therein a correspondingly-said circular "()" seal, and that a stopper pin being interposed into said groove for rigidly holding therein the ()' seal thereby making the joint leak proof.

Detailed description of the preferred embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows a typical arrangement of a split type spring plate in which the
having an oil lubricated thrust bearing (B) being supported by a
bracket. Two segments of the splitted type spring plate supporting the operative load on
the thrust bearing (B) transmitted via the shaft (S). The spring plate assembly (1) has a
'O' seal groove and the bracket has a circular 'O' seal groove.
Figs. 2 and 3 shows the details of the components of the split type spring plate (1) of the invention. The spring plate comprises two spring plate segments (1,1) with two joint flanges in each segment for assembling them together. One segment shall be machined to have 'O' seal groove on each joint face as shown in Fig. 4 and 5. Locating dowel (4) is provided to locate the two halves correctly in vertical plane. A number of fitting bolt (2) are arranged for locating the relative position of the two spring plate segments ( 1,1). Only after putting the fitting bolts (2), in position, a plurality of joint tightening bolts (3) are assembled and tightened in position. The locating dowel (4) further facilitates insertion of the fitting bolts (2) in position. One spring plate segment out of the two segments will be maintained for making the grooves for accommodating an 'O' seal (5). This 'O' seal groove is machined accurately within specified tolerances. The length of the 'O' seal (5) is to be determined such that the 'O' seal does not bulge out of the grooves. A number of stopper pin (6) is tightened to lock the 'O' seal (5) in position. The thrust bearing bracket (9) and the oil retaining ring (10) are provided with a circular 'O' seal (7) at the spring plate seating surface for stopping the oil leakage from the sealing surface. The circular 'O' seal (7) groove is machined on the thrust bearing bracket (9). The 'O' seal groove has two threaded holes for the stopper pin (6) which locks the 'O' seal (5) in position.
