Full Text The present invention relates to a broad width plate bladed fan.
Field of the Invention
Fan is a turbo machine designed to deliver a given volume and pressure to meet to the system requirement.
Fans are very essential auxiliaries to boiler for steam generation in the field of power and process industries. Fans are used as forced draft fan for providing air for combustion, primary air fan for carrying pulverized coal to combustion chamber and induced draft fans for exhausting the flue gases to chimney as per the system requirement. The application requirements can be catered by radial and axial flow fan. Suitable control mechanism is used to regulate the fan performance to meet system demand and to meet part load operating conditions.
The present development relates to the design of broad width plate bladed radial fan for use in utilities and process industries in general and induced draft application in particular for better part load performance. This design caters to following design criteria.

Flow coefficient φ = 0.182
Pressure coefficient Ψ = 0.872
Efficienty . n = 85%
Which is void presently.
Object of the Invention
One of the objects of the present work relates to the development of broad width plate bladed radial fan for use in utilities and process industries in general and induced draft application in particular for better handling of high volume zone performance.
Another object of the present invention provides the development and to invent the fan design for handling high volumes, reduce the power consumption at the part load design performance which is most needed in the market.
Summery of the Invention
In the present developed fan the blade of the impeller is with broad width with plate bladed design which is special profile with smooth entry, exit angles to handle high volumes like induced draft application.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a broad width plate bladed fan comprising an impeller having a broad width plate bladed design for handling high volume draft air, said impeller having a plate fitted with a plate blade, said impeller being housed within a spiral casing which acts a diffuser to recover the kinetic energy of the fluid leaving said impeller, a suction chamber for guiding the flow inside the fan through seal to said impeller, said impeller being driven by a motor.

Dimensions of casing and suction chamber has been optimized to extract maximum kinetic energy. Inclined inlet guide vane design has been developed to have better controllability in performance with lesser losses.
The present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein
Fig. 1 illustrates the conventional design of radial fan used in industries;
Fig.2 shows a fan according to the present invention.
The present conventional radial fan design consists of impeller (01) which is narrow width design. Generally the flow developed by narrow width like conventional design will be very low and hence this design will not be suitable for high volume handling like induced draft application and hence the existing design will not be optimum for selecting to this high volume zone application. This impeller consists of back/centre plate (01) with narrow width which will not be able to handle high volume, formed blade (02), taper shroud, ring and hub. The impeller placed inside of spiral casing (03) which will act as the diffuser to recover the kinetic
energy of the fluid leaving the impeller, a suction chamber (04) which uniformly guides the flow inside the fan through a seal (05) to the impeller. The impeller is driven by conventional motor. The electrical energy input is converted in to aerodynamic output by the rotating impeller. In the present conventional design of flow regulating device damper is used (06) where the pressure drop will be more and results in lesser efficiency.
Detailed description of the invention
The broad width plate bladed fan design consists of impeller (01) which is broad width plate bladed design. The impeller is broad width as designed and hence most suitable for handling high volumes as like induced draft fans application.
This impeller which broad width as designed consists of rear or back/centre plate, fitted with plate blade (02). The parameters like camber, angle of incidence, leading and trailing edge shapes were specially designed.
The new impeller placed inside spiral casing (03) which will act as the diffuser to recover the kinetic energy of the fluid leaving from impeller whose diffusivity angle and geometry shape where finalized after detailed analysis using CFD where as the number of blades and blade actuations were furnished based on controllability aspects.
The developed fan is also evolved for mechanical design using finite element analysis for mechanical design so that the material contents of the fan also is optimum.
The invented design was converted in to 500 mm model fan with single suction and performance test was carried out to establish its aerodynamic performance. A considerable improvement in handling high volumes comparing with conventional design.
