Title of Invention

"A INTRA ISOLATION DEVECE"

Abstract This invention relates to an intra isolation device for use in the oil pipe lines characterized in that a flange secured at. the lower end of a hollow pipe adapted to be mounted on another flange secured to the pipe lines, an inflatable rubber bladder secured at the lower end of a hollow tube being disposed within the neck portion of said flange, a cover plate having a gland secured therewith being provided on the top end of the neck portion of said flange, an air supply/release means such as a nozzle having a pressure gauge provided therewith being secured at the top end of said hollow tube for supplying/releasing air to arid from the said bladder for monitoring air pressure in the bladder.
Full Text This invention relates to an intra isolation
device for use in large pipe lines to stop the supply of nil during cleaning/repairing of the pipe line.
The use of booster pump and valve is well known in oil conveying pipe line. Whenever any
equipment/pump needs to be repaired, isolation valve are used to isolate the equipment from rest of the line
and maintenance is carried out. However, if isolation valves needs repair or to be replaced, then whole
pipeline has to be emptied. In large pipeline, distance between isolation valve can be hundreds of
kilometer and emptying of such pipeline is extremely difficult, time consuming, and leads to enormous amount
of wastage of oil. Further for maintenance of any flooded pipeline nearest valves are closed, and trapped
product is drained to carryout maintenance work. This is a standard age old method. If any valve needs
repair or replacement complete pipeline has to be emptied. This is a time consuming method and wastage is
very—very high.
Therefore the main object of this invention is to provide an intra isolation device for use in oil pipeline to stop the supply of oil for carrying out the maintenance.
Another object of this invention is to provide an intra isolation device which can be transported very easily and can be installed at site conveniently.
Another object of this invention is to provide an intra isolation device which eliminate the need of emptying of the pipe line before carrying out repair/cleaning operation.
Another object of this invention is to provide an intra isolation device, use of which can avoid the long operation time required for repairing pipeline and to minimize expenditure.
According to this invention there is provided an intra isolation device for use in the oil pipe lines characterized in that a flange secured at the lower end of a hollow pipe adapted to be mounted on another flange secured to the pipe lines, an inflatable rubber bladder secured at the lower end of a hollow tube being disposed within the neck portion of said flange, a cover plate having a gland secured therewith being provided on the top end of the neck portion of said flange, an air supply/release means such as a nozzle having a pressure gauge provided therewith being secured at the top end of said hollow tube for supplying/releasing air to and from the said bladder for monitoring air pressure in the bladder.
In accordance with this invention an intra isolation device has a flange secured to the lower end of a pipe. A cover having a central hole therein is mounted on the top end of the pipe. An inflatable rubber bladder is secured at the lower end of a hollow tube fitted in the pipe. A gland is secured with the cover plate, to hold hollow tube in position and to arrest any leakage of Oil during operation. A nozzle to supply/release or to hold air is fitted with a Pressure Gauge for monitoring air pressure in the bladder. Two small valves are provided at lower and upper end of pipe to drain excessive fluid filled in the pipe during isolation operation.
An intra isolation device according to a preferred embodiment is herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings:-
Fiq.1 shows the sectional plan view of the device. Fig.2 shows the application of the device. Fiq.3a & Fig.3b shows the operation application of the device.
Referring to a drawing particularly fig.l the device of this invention has a flange 1 secured with the lower end of a pipe to a cover plate 3 having a central hole 4 is secured at the top end of the pipe 2. An
inflatable rubber bladder 5 secured at the lower end of hollow tube 6 is fixed with in the pipe 2. A gland
having two O—Rings 8 is mounted on the cover plate 3 to hold the hollow tube 6 firmly to avoid any leakage. A
nozzle, to supply/hold/release air in/from bladder, is provided at the top of the tube with a pressure gauge.
Valves 11 and 12 are provided near the upper and lower ends of the pipe 2 for draining oil filled in the pipe 2
during "Isolation Operation" of the pipe line.
During operation, device along with tube 6
and bladder 5 is secured on to the flange 2 of main pipe line on both the sides of the main valves V, which is to
be repaired/replaced arid as shown in fig.2. When device is firmly attached, hollow tube 6 is pushed downward, so
that: rubber bladder 5 reaches in the middle of main pipe line P. Now air is supplied in the bladder 5 through
the air valve 9 and pressure is monitored through Pr „ Gauge 10. Rubber bladder 5 is inflated to such an
extent that, oil flow from one side to the other is stopped completely. During inflation of bladder 5,
excess oil displaced in pipe 2 is drained out from drain valves 11 & 12. The device is installed on both
sides of main valve V to isolate it from main line P. Now main valve V can be repaired or replaced
conveniently without draining whole pipe line P.
As shown in fig.3 the device of this
invention can be used in the sub—pipe line.

CLAIM:-
