PREFORM WITH A GATE HAVING WINGS

Abstract A preform includes an open end and a close end. A gate extends from an outside of the close end and a plurality of wings extend from the close end and are connected to the gate. The wings increase area for dispensing heat therefrom and each wing has a curve profile which allows the gate to be easily disengaged from the mold.

PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner which it is to be performed : -

PREFORM WITH A GATE HAVING WINGS FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a preform, and more particularly, to a preform having a gate on a closed end thereof and the gate has wings which are solidified quickly when removing from the mold. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
A conventional plastic bottle is formed by way of plastic injection to form a preform which is then proceeded by way of stretching and blowing to be an elongated bottle with an open end and a close end. The plastic bottles are blown into desired sizes.
As shown in Fig. 4, when the preform 6 is blanked from the mold, there is gate 62 connected to the close end 61 of the preform 6 and the gate 62 is formed by the material in the runner 63, the material of the gate 62 is too soft so that when removing the preform 6 from the mold, the gate 62 is separated from the close end 61 of the preform 6 and left in the runner 63 as shown in Fig. 5. Once the gate 62 is left in the runner 63, the machine has to be stopped so as to remove the preform 62 from the runner 63. In order to improve the problem, as shown in Fig.6, the runner 71 is made to be narrower so that the material of gate 7 can be quickly solidified and easily to be removed with the preform 72. However, the narrower runner 71 makes the feeding of the plastic material into the mold be slow and the material in the mold cannot be cooled evenly. This might lead to the bottle having an uneven thickness.

The present invention intends to provide a preform that has a gate connected to a close end thereof and the gate includes wings so that the gate is easily cooled. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a preform which comprises a body with an open end and a close end. A gate extends from an outside of the close end and a plurality of wings extend from the close end and are connected to the gate. Each wing has a curve profile.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a gate on the close end of a preform and the gate includes a plurality of wings for quickly dispensing heat from the gate.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a gate on the close end of a preform wherein the wings each have a curve profile which makes the gate to be easily disengaged from the mold.
The present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Fig. 1 is a perspective view to show the preform of the present invention;
Fig. 2 shows the gate connected to the preform and located in the runner of the mold;
3

Fig. 3 is a perspective view to show the gate;
Fig. 4 shows a conventional gate connected to the preform and located in the runner;
Fig. 5 shows that the conventional gate is separated from the preform and left in the runner, and
Fig. 6 shows another conventional gate connected to the preform and located in the runner. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
Referring to Figs. 1 to 3, the preform of the present invention comprises an elongate body 1 with an open end 11 and a close end 12. The body 1 is made by way of plastic injection within an upper mold 21 and a lower mold 22. A gate 13 extends from an outside of the close end 12 and the gate 13 is an elongate rod with a tapered outer periphery. A plurality of wings 131 extend from the close end 12 of the body 1 and are connected to the gate 13. Each wing 131 has a curve profile 132.
The gate 13 with the wings 131 are located in the runner 23. It is noted that the wings 131 includes a large area so that heat of the material escapes quickly so that the gate 13 and the wings 131 are solidified within a short period of time.
When removing the body 1 from the molds 21, 22, the tapered gate 13 and the wings 131 with curve profile 132 assist the gate 13 and the wings 131 to be easily removed from the molds 21,22.
The gate 13 and the wings 131 includes limited amount of plastic material while keeping the runner 23 to be large enough to

feed the plastic material into the cave between the upper mold 21 and the lower mold 22. The gate 13 and the wings 131 are solidified quickly so that they are securely connected to the close end 12 of the body 1 and removed with the body 1 from the molds 21, 22.
While we have shown and described the embodiment in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.
