Title of Invention

STORAGE STRUCTURE FOR MOTORCYCLE

Abstract [Solving Means] A rib 164 extending from a bottom plate 163 of a seat 32 to the lower side of an opening portion 162 of a small thing storing portion 61 is provided between the opening portion 162 of the small thing storing portion 161 and the upper udges 75a of body covers 75 and 76. [Effects] A labyrinth structure can be formed by the opening portion of the small thing storing portion, the upper udges of the body covers and the rib,and the selling properties can be enhanced by shielding the small thing storing portion from the exterior by the labyrinth structure which is a simple seal stricture. In addditiona,a seal number which might be provided between the opening portion of the small thing storing portion and the seat can be omitted, so that the cost pertaining to the seal structure can be suppressed.

. COMPLETE SPECIFICATION
[See Section 10]
"STORAGE STRUCTURE FOR MOTORCYCLE"
HONDA GIKEN KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA, a corporation of Japan, having a place of business at 1-1, Minamiaoyama 2-chome, Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan,

The following specification particularly describes the nature of the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed :-

The present invention relates to storage structure for motorcycle.
[Detailed Description of the Invention] [0001]
[Technical Field to which the Invention Pertains] The present invention relates to a storage structure for a motorcycle which is suitable for suppressing the cost pertaining to a seal structure while enhancing the sealing properties. [0002] [Prior Art]
As a storage structure for a motorcycle, there has been known, for example, the one described in Japanese Patent Laid-open No. Hei 7-69260 "Rear Fender Fitting Structure for Motorcycle".
Fig. 5 in the above-mentioned publication describes a motorcycle in which a rear fender 3 0 (the symbols used in the publication are used here) is disposed between left and right seat rails 20, 20, and the rear fender 3 0 is provided with side walls each adjacent to the seat

rail 20 to thereby form a storing portion.
[0003]
[Problems to be Solved by the Invention]
Although the upper side of the storing portion of the rear fender 30 is covered with the seat, a seal structure must be provided between an opening of the storing portion and the seat so as to prevent rain water, soil dust and the like from penetrating in from the exterior. However, if the seal structure is made complicate for enhancing the sealing properties, the cost is raised largely.
[0004]
In view of the above, it is an object of the present invention to suppress the cost pertaining to a seal structure while enhancing the sealing properties, by improving a storage structure for a motorcycle.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
To attain the above object, claim 1 is characterized in that, in a motorcycle including a rear fender covering the upper side of a rear wheel, the rear fender provided with a storing portion for storing small things, tools and the like, a seat covering the upper side of the storing portion, and a vehicle body cover

covering the lateral sides of the rear fender, wherein a rib extending from a bottom plate of the seat to the lower side of an opening portion of the storing portion is provided between the opening portion of the storing portion and the upper edge of the vehicle body cover.
[0006]
A labyrinth structure can be formed by the opening portion of the storing portion, the upper edge of the vehicle body cover and the rib, and the sealing properties can be enhanced by shielding the storing portion from the exterior by the labyrinth structure which is a simple seal structure. Besides, a seal member between the opening portion of the storing portion and the seat can be omitted, so that the cost pertaining to the seal structure can be suppressed.
[0007]
characterized in that the seat is
supported by the vehicle body frame at positions corresponding to a front portion and a rear portion of the storing portion.
A reduction in the space inside the storing portion by a support portion for the seat can be restrained, so that the capacity of the storing portion can be secured [0008]

Claim 3 is characterized in that the rib surrounds the opening portion of the storing portion.
The sealing properties for the storing portion can be enhanced by surrounding the opening portion of the storing portion with the rib, as compared, for example, with the case where ribs are provided only at the lateral sides of the opening portion.
Claim 4 is characterized in that a bottom plate of the seat is provided with a document clamping portion for clamping a document such as a maintenance manual, on the inside of the rib.
With the document clamping portion, a document can be easily stored beneath the seat. [0010] [Mode for Carrying Out the Invention]
A mode for carrying out the present invention will
be described below based on the accompanying drawings.
[Brief Description of the Drawings] [Fig. l]
.Fig.1 is a side view of a motorcycle adopting the storage structure according to the present invention. [Fig. 2]
Fig. 2 is a side view of a major part of a vehicle
