Title of Invention

A METALLIC CARD CLOTHING

Abstract The invention relates to a metallic card clothing for rollers of carding machine and beater rollers of blow room machine. It comprises of a base portion (1) and blade portion (2) having plurality of primary teeth (3) of equal height along the length of the blade portion (2) and at least one secondary tooth (4) shorter than the primary teeth between each pair of successive primary teeth.
Full Text The invention relates to a metallic card clothing for rollers of carding machine and beater rollers of blow room machine.
In a carding machine metallic card clothing is wound spirally on to the main cylinder, doffer and licker in rollers and on beater rollers in a blow room machine. The metallic card clothing acting with the flexible card clothing located on the fiats of a carding machine facilitates fibre individualization. The metallic card clothing facilitates opening and cleaning of fibre tufts in a blow room machine.
The metallic card clothing mounted on the rollers of a carding machine and blow room machine comprises a base portion and blade portion having teeth. In the metallic card clothing used in practice till now the spacing provided between the adjacent teeth and the height of the teeth are same throughout the length of the card clothing.
While processing fibre material the sharp teeth with uniform height of the metallic card clothing leads to fibre rupture and inferior parallelisation of the fibre. A further drawback of the known card clothing is that, due to the uniform height of the teeth points, the seed particles are crushed between the rollers, which causes entangled small seed coats on the fibre and they are not completely extracted in further processing resulting in inferior quality of yam and fabric.

The invention provides a metallic card clothing in which a plurality of primary teeth and a plurality of secondary teeth are provided along the length of the card clothing. The secondary teeth are shorter than the primary teeth and at least one secondary teeth is provided between each successive primary teeth. Preferably the land widths of the secondary teeth are kept more than that of the land widths of the primary teeth to an extent of 0.03 mm to 1.80 mm. The height of the secondary teeth are preferably 40% to 95% of the height of the primary teeth. The secondary teeth may be positioned anywhere between the successive primary teeth. In a preferred embodiment two or three secondary teeth are provided between two successive primary teeth.
Thus the invention provides a metallic card clothing for rollers of carding machine and beater rollers of blow room machine said card clothing comprising of a base portion and blade portion having plurality of primary teeth of equal height along the length of the blade portion and at least one secondary tooth shorter than the primary teeth between each pair of successive primary teeth.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 and la shows the metallic card clothing according to the prior art.

Figures 2, 2a; 3, 3a; 4, 4a; 5. 5a shows different embodiments of the metallic card clothing according to the invention.
The metallic card clothing comprises a base portion (1) and a blade portion (2) with teeth. The metallic card clothing used in the prior art is shown in figure 1 in which the height of the teeth in the blade portion and the width of the lands (L) of the teeth are constant. In the metallic card clothing according to the invention shown in the figures 2, 2a; 3, 3a; 4, 4a; 5, 5a; the heights of the primary teeth (3) in the blade portion are more than that of the secondary teeth (4) provided between successive primary teeth (3). The thickness (T) of the base portion, the thickness (t) of the teeth and the height (Hi) of the base portion are kept uniform throughout the length of the card clothing. The secondary teeth (4) are positioned between the successive primary teeth (3). The distances (Pi) between the tips of successive primary teeth (3) and the distances (P2) between the tips of the primary teeth (3) and the tips of the blowing secondary teeth (4) are kept uniform along the length of the card clothing.
The metallic card clothing according to the invention reduces fibre rupture and reduces crushing of seed coats.
The metallic card clothing according to the invention is preferably made of carbon steel or alloy steel and is hardened.

WE CLAIM:
1. A metallic card clothing for rollers of carding machine and beater rollers of blow room machine characterized in that said card clothing comprises a base portion (1) and blade portion (2) having plurality of primary teeth (3) of equal height along the length of the blade portion (2) and at least one secondary tooth (4) shorter than the primary teeth between each pair of successive primary teeth.
2. The metallic card clothing, as claimed in claim 1, wherein land width (L) of the primary teeth is less than that of the secondary teeth.
3. The metallic card clothing, as claimed in claim 2, wherein the difference between the landwidths of primary teeth and that of the secondary teeth is between 0.03 mm to 1.80 mm.
4. The metallic card clothing, as claimed in claims 1 or 2, wherein the height of
the secondary teeth is 40% to 95% of the height of the primary teeth.
5. The metallic card clothing, as claimed in any one of the claims 1 to 4, wherein
2 or 3 secondary teeth are provided between two successive primary teeth.
