AN IMPROVED METHOD OF DEPOSITION OF THIN HARD COATING OF DIAMOND LIKE THIN CARBON (DLTC) FILM ON THE EDGES OF RAZOR BLADES AND APPARATUS FOR THE SAME.

Abstract TITLE: AN IMPROVED METHOD OF DEPOSITION OF THIN HARD COATING OF DIAMOND LIKE THIN CARBON (DLTC) FILM ON THE EDGES OF RAZOR BLADES AND APPARATUS FOR THE SAME. An improved method of deposition of thin hard coating of Diamond Like Thin Carbon (DLTC) film on the edges of razor blades comprising the steps of: cleaning to remove oils, greases and other unwanted material from the stack of freshly sharpened razor blade edges by known methods and subjecting to the said cleaned blades to vacuum of 10-2 mbar to 10-7 mbar while keeping the distance between the two blades 50 to 80mm; subjecting the above stack of blades of step to a source of argon gas by means of Mass Flow Controller (MFC) while keeping the flow rate constant at ~2 to~4 sccm and chamber pressure at ~10-2 to ~10-4 mbar and voltage of 1 to 2 kv; coating the above stack of blades of step with DLTC coating under said vaccum while using said DC power source; and subjecting the above stack of blades with acetylene gas thorugh Mass Flow Controller (MFC) while keeping the flow rate constant which is about ~2 to ~4 sccm and thereafter applying high voltage positivesupply at 1 to 2 kv to the source for a period of about 8 to 12 minutes while using quartz crystal monitor to monitor the thickness of films deposited on the edges of blade and completing the process as and when thickness of 300-500 angstroms of DLTC film is achieved.
