Title of Invention

A FLAP FOR BEING LOCATED BETWEEN THE BASE OF THE TUBE AND THE INSIDE FACE OF THE RIM OF A VEHICLE WHEEL

Abstract A flap for being located between the base of the tube and inside face of the rim of a vehicle wheel, the flap having a hole and the rim having a slot, characterised in that a rubber coated nylon fabric patch is bonded to the surface of the flap at the region of the said hole, said patch also having a hole in alignment with the hole in the flap for insertion of the valve stem of the tube through the holes in the flap and in the patch and thence through the slot in the rim .

This invention re 1 at.es to a f 1 ao for itse between I;he base o.f- the tube and inside face of the rxm of a vehicle wheel, for providing protection to the tube.
The valve stem of the tube is inserted t.I"irough a ho 1 e provided in the flap and thence through a s 1 ot provided in the rim.
U s u a 1 1 y „ the tube is .inflate d t o hi i g h p r e s S u r e a n d . under actual working conditions. such pressure increases to higher- va 1 ues „ Con sequen 11 y „ t. here x s a tendency for the flap to be gradually pushed out through the slot, initia 11 y 1 eadj.ng to damage to the flap and ,, finally, to the tube i tsel f -
This invention - therefore,, proposes means for greatly reducing the tendency of the tube to thus "creep" and "flow" i, as will be c 1 e a r f r o m t h e f o 1 1 o w i n g description.
According to this invention„ the flap for use between
the base of the tube and inside fac.^ of the r im o f a
vehicle wheel , the flap having a ho 1 e and the r:i.m
having a slot, is characterised in that a rubber coated

ny1 on fabric patch is bonded to the surface of the flap, at the region of the said hole, sald patch a 1 so having a ho1e i n a 1i g nment w i t h the ho1e i n the f1 a p„ for insertion of the valve stem of 1he t.ube throttgh the holes in the flap Bnd in the patch m\d thence through the slot in the rim -
This i n v e n t i o n w i 1 .1 n o w h e d e s c r i h e d i n f u r t h e r d e t a i 1 with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate;, by way of e;■:amp.1. e « one of var ious posSi b 1 e em bod i men t s of this i nven t i on
Fig . .1. i 1 1 ustrating the f 1 ap in posi tion between the base of the tube and the inside face of the rim
^nd
Fig.2 illustrating a separate view of the patch.
According to the known art, the flap has a hole H ^nd
the rim R has a slot S. The valve stem V of the tube i
is inserted through the hole H in the flap F i^nd thence
through the slot S in the rim R. The

drawback associated with this arrangement has already been discussed above«
The flap F proposed herein„ however, is provided wi th a rubber—coated nylon fabric patch*P„ which is bonded to the surface of the flap F„ at the region of the s a id hole H- The bonding of the patch to the flap is preferably done by means of an adhesive „
The said pateh P a1 so has a hoie J in a 1ignmen t wi th the hole H in the flap, for insertion of the valve stem V of the tube through the holes H and J in the flap F and patch P and thence through the slot S in the rim R-This arrangement greatly reduces the tendency of the flap to "creep" Bnd "flow".
Preferably, the patch P is square or rectangu1ar in shape to suit the conf igurati on of the tube , a 11haug h other shapes arts possible.
The nylon fabric of the patch is„ preferably■ of the square woven type, to afford better grip and adhesion „ although other types of weave arB also possible.

The nylon fabric has high tenacity in use i^nd low m o i stlire pickup* thus provic:l ing be11er rein f orc emen t and adhesion -

We Claim:

inside -Pace of the r im of a vehic 1 e wheel , the fIap having a hole and the rum having a siot, character 1 sed in that a rubber-coated nylon fabric patch is bonded to the surface of the f1ap , at the region o f the said hole. said patch also having a hole in alignment with the hole in the f1ap „ for insert ion of the va1 was tem of the tube through the hio1es in the flap and 1 n the patch and thence through the siot in the rim-
2.A flap as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the nvlon fabrii i s o f t h e s q u a r e w o v e n t y p e ,

4 „ A flap as c1 aimed in any one of the preceding C1 aims
wherein the said patch is adhesively bonded to the said
surface.
5 - A f 1 a p for' u s e b e t w e e n t h e b a s e o f t h e t u b e a n d
