This invention relates to a coconut frond shredder for cutting the coconut fronds into small pieces.
It has been found that the coconut leaves have very good fertilized and soil conditioning valves but they are rarely used as fertilizer and soil conditioning means due to the following reasons.
One of the main reason is that the coconut leaves are too big to be left under the tree to decay and become bio-fertilizer as it takes a very long time to decay because of fibrous nature.
Another reason is that as the leaves are too big and take very long time in decaying, activities like cultivation, ploughing, intercropping, weeding etc. cannot be under taken easily.
Therefore the main object of this invention is to propose a device for shredding of coconut frond/leaves into small pieces to leave them under the trees for decaying and becoming biofertilizer.
An object of this invention is to propose a device for shredding coconut frond/leaves into small pieces so that it becomes easy to undertake activities like cultivation, ploughing, intercropping, wedding etc.
Still another object of this invention is to propose a device which can cut the coconut fronds/leaves into small pieces to make them recycled back into the soil to form organic manure for healthy tree growth.

According to this invention there is provided a coconut frond shredder comprising a base frame for supporting a main shaft provided for securing a cutting arm on one end tho-eof and towards one side of said frame, a fly wheel is provided in the middle of said shaft so as to provide a momentum to said cutter arm, a motive means being provided at the bottom of said base frame for providing rotational movement to said shaft, a hopper being provided on the top of said base frame for feeding coconut frond/leaves therein for shredding purposes.
In accordance with this invention the coconut frame shredder has a base frame for supporting a main shaft ratatably. A cutter arm having a pair of cutter blades provided at both the ends is secured at one end of said shaft and on one side of said base frame. A fly wheel is mounted in the middle of said shaft for providing momentum to said cutter arm and to maintain the constant rotational speed of said cutter arm. A motive means for example an electric motor or a diesel/petrol engine is mounted near the bottom of said base frame for providing rotational movement to said shaft and thereby to said cutter arm. A hopper is mounted on the top of said base frame for feeding coconut frond/leaves to be chopped off therein.
A coconut frond shredder according to a preferred embodiment is herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein : Fig.l shows the perspective view of frond shredder.

Referring to the drawings particularly fig.l, the coconut frond shredder has a base frame 1 for supporting a shaft 2 rotatably near the top end thereof A cutter arm 3 is secured at one end of said shaft 2 on one side of the frame 1. A fly wheel 4 is secured in the middle of the cutter arm during operation of the machine. Motive means 5 for example an electric motor or diesel engine is mounted on the bottom of the base frame 1 for rotating the shaft 2 and thus cutter arm 3 by means of a pulley and belt. Cutter blades 3A are provided at either ends of the cutter arm 3 and base frame 1 at the top thereof towards the cutter arm for cutting the coconut fronds/leaves into small pieces which are mixed with the soil under the coconut trees for producing bio-fertilizer. A hopper 6 is mounted at the top of the frame 1 for feeding the coconut fronds between the cutting blades 3 A.
During operation of the machine drive motor drives the shaft fly wheel and cutter arm at a speed of 330 rpm. Cutter arm with the blades moves in the plane perpendicular to the hopper, and no gap is provided between the fixed blades and cutter arms and thus the blades shear any material coming from the hopper between said blades in the perpendicular direction. The fly wheel and the rotating cutter arms stores the energy due to their heavy weight and assists in the cutting operation.

I CLAIM:
1. A coconut frond shredder comprising a base frame (1) for
supporting a main shaft (2) rotatably therewith near the top end
thereof and a cutter arm (3) being secured at one end of said shaft
being provided at one side of said frame, a flywheel (4) being
mounted in the middle of said shaft for maintaining the speed of
said shaft and cutter arm, motive means (5) mounted on the
bottom end of said shaft being provided for rotating said shaft, a
hopper (6) mounted on the top of said base frame being provided
for feeding the coconut frond/leaves therein for cutting purposes.
2. A coconut frond shredder as claimed in claim 1 wherein cutting
blade (3A) is provided at either ends of said cutting arm and base
frame towards said cutting arm.
3. A coconut frond shredder as claimed in claim 1 wherein said shaft
has a pulley for supporting a belt thereon provided for rotating
said shaft by said motor.
4. A coconut frond shredder substantially as herein described and
illustrated.
