Title of Invention | A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF A FERTILIZER |
---|---|
Abstract | This invention relates to a process for producing a fertilizer which comprises in providing a first layer of pith covered by a second layer of a fungus which is capable of feeding on lignin present in the pith, a third layer of pith covered by a fourth layer of urea, repeating said first to fourth layers around height of 1m, water is sprinkled on such layer to get moisture content. |
Full Text | FIELD OF INVENTION This invent ion relates to a procpss for the preparation of a fertilizer. In particular, this invent ion relates to a process for the prep^rat ion of a fertilizer from the pith of coconut. PRIOR ART It is generally known that a coconut comprises a nut protected by a fleshy material to consist of fibre, pith and peel. The peel and the nut is removed and the remainder constituents consisting of the pith and fibre is subjected to a retting process. The retting process causes a separation of the fibre from the pith as the f ibre or coir has commercial value and the coir yarn can be woven into coir products such as floor coverings. The pith separated from the husk constitutes a waste. The pith can not be employed as a fertilizer as it contains lignin. No process has hitherto been described or suggested in the art to convert the pith of a useful application. OBJECTS QF THE INVENTION An object of this invention is to propose a process for the treatment of pith so that i t may be used as a fertiliser. Another object of this invention is to propose a process for the treatment of pith which is ef f icient. Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description. DESCRIPTION QF THE INVENTION According to this invention there is provided a process for producing a fertilizer which comprises in providing a first laypr of pith covered by a second layer of a fungus whi ch is capable of feeding on lignin present in the pith, a third layer of pith covered by a fourth 1aynr of urea, repeating said first to fourth layers. The present invention envisages a process for producing a fertilizer from a hitherto waste material, namely pith- Such a pith may be obtained by the known retting process, and wherein the pith is separated from the fibre or coir of coconut husk. Alternatively, the pith may be mechanically separated from the f ibre or coir. However, the known process in both instances was essent ially effected to recover coir or f ibre from the husk, which had several useful applications, and the pith separated therefrom constituted a waste- In accordance with the present invention, such a known waste is treated so as to produce a fertilizer. Such a process consists in forming multilayers in an overlying relationship- The first layer comprises pith having a second layer of a fungus capable of 1ivi ng on the 1i gni n present i n pith. By way of example, the fungus comprises whi te rot fungus - The third layer agai n comprises pith havi ng a fourth layer of urea. Such layers BTB repeated till a height of 1 m is formed. Sprinkled is constantly sprinkled onto such layers so as to have a moisture content of about 2007- so as to a 1 low a growth of the fungus - As the lignin is consumed , the volume of the layers is reduced by abĀ«~*u t 50%. Such layers arB allowed to stand for a per iod of about 30 days so as to produce the fertili^Rr which is rich in nitrogen, potassium and phosphorous. By way of example, when the first and third layers are each formed from 100 kg of pith, approx imately 300 to 500 gms of the fungus constitutes the second layer and 1 to 2 kg of urea constitutes the fourth layer- Water is applied daily to such layers and the layers ar& allowed to stand for 30 days. A plurality of first to fourth layers are formed. WE CLAIM: 1. A process for producing a fertilizer which comprises in providing a first layer of pith covered by a second layer of a fungus which is capable of feeding on lignin present in the pith, a third layer of pith covered by a fourth layer of urea, repeating said first to fourth layers. 2. A process as claimed in claim 1 wherein said fungus is white rot fungus. 3. A process as claimed in claim 1 wherein water is applied to said layers. 4. A process for producing a fertilizer from the pith of coconut husk substantially as herein described. |
