Title of Invention

A WEB GUIDING DEVICE FOR A COMBING MACHINE

Abstract The invention relates to a web guiding device for a combing machine. It comprises a curved guide plate (9) having the shape of an ogee curve located between the nip of a pair of delivery rollers (5, 6) and the nip of a pair of detaching rollers (3, 4). It is attached to the combing machine maintaining a distance (0) of 7 mm to 13 mm between the edge of the curved guide plate (9) and a line parallel to the edge of the curved guide plate (9). It passes through the center of the lower detaching roller (3) and a direction changing plate (10) mounted on the combing machine frame with its surface facing the curved surface of the said guide plate (9) at a pre-determined distance from the said guide plate.

This invention relates to a web guiding device for a combing machine. The web guiding device according to the invention is to be provided between pair of detaching rollers and a pair of delivery rollers.
The combing machines which are currently in use typically have two pairs of detaching rollers which are mounted on a machine
>
frame and which are rotated in forward and backward direction in a pilgrim motion, during the operation of the machine. These detaching rollers receive combed tufts which are delivered in succession and form combed tufts into web which in turn delivered to a pair of delivery rollers mounted on the machine frame. The web guiding device according to the invention is disposed between the detaching rollers and delivery rollers in order to guide the web. During operation the delivery rollers rotate continuously at a constant speed. Since the detaching rollers are rotated forward and backward, the web forms wave on a web guide plate of the device.
The known combing machines are subjected to variable and irregular jamming of the web waves on a web guide plate down stream of the detaching rollers depending on moisture and impurity content of the fibre material. This will cause lapping of the detaching rollers, particularly on rubber cot mounted roller adjacent to the web guide plate.
It is an object of the invention to provide a web guiding device, which avoids jamming of a web wave on the web guide plate

down stream of a pair of detaching roller of the combing machine.
It is an another object of the invention to reduce the wave formation of the web during processing in the combing machine.
Thus the invention provides a web guiding device for a combing machine comprising a curved guide plate having the shape of an ogee curve located between the nip of a pair of delivery rollers and the nip of a pair of detaching rollers attached to the combing machine maintaining a distance of 7 mm to 13 mm between the edge of the curved guide plate and a line parallel to the edge of the curved guide plate and passing through the center of the lower detaching roller and a direction changing plate mounted on the combing machine frame with its surface facing the curved surface of the said guide plate at a predetermined distance from the said guide plate.
With reference to the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 shows the web guiding device according to the invention located between detaching rollers and delivery rollers.
Fig.2 shows the general construction of curved web guide plate having the shape of an ogee curve.

The invention is directed to a web guiding device for a combing machine comprising a pair of detaching rollers (3, 4) disposed in vertical overlying relation to each other to deliver fibre web and a pair of delivery rollers (5, 6) for receiving the web which is delivered by the detaching rollers. The web guiding device comprises a curved guide plate (9) positioned between the detaching rollers (3, 4) and delivery rollers -(5, 6) and a direction changing plate (10). The edge of the curved guide plate (9) is kept at a distance (D) of 7mm to 13 mm from a line parallel to the edge of the curved guide plate and passing through the center of the lower detaching roller (3). The curved guide plate (9) is provided with a curved guide surface section (9.1) and a second guide surface section (9.2). The shape of the curved guide plate (9) defines an ogee curve and the surface facing the detaching rollers deflect the web delivered from the detaching rollers in an upward direction. The web which is deflected in upward direction establishes contact with the surface of a direction changing plate (10) preferably made of a non metallic material. The direction changing plate (10) is so positioned to divert the web in the direction of the delivery rollers (5, 6). The curvature of the curved guide plate forming an ogee curve ensures a smooth flow of web from detaching roller pair to the delivery roller pair. The length of the direction changing plate (10) is selected as at least equal to the length of the surface of the curved guide plate (9).
Referring to the drawing 1, the combing machine has plurality of combing heads, which comprises two pairs of detaching

rollers (1, 2, 3, 4) as well as a pair of delivery rollers (5,6). The detaching rollers (1,2,3,4) and the delivery rollers (5,6) are mounted so as to be rotated about respective, horizontal axes within a machine frame (7) of the combing machine. As illustrated, the rollers (3,4) of the downstream pair of detaching rollers are disposed in vertical overlying relation to each other in
ยป
order to deliver a fibre web (W) in a substantially horizontal direction (H) to the web guiding device.
The direction changing plate (10), is located at a distance above the section (9.1) of the curved guide plate (9). The direction changing plate (10) has a surface facing the curved surface of the curved guide plate section (9.1), to deflect the web (W) passed from the curved surface section (9.1) of the curved guide plate in a forward direction, away from the detaching rollers (3,4) and towards the pair of delivery rollers (5,6). The surface of the direction changing plate (10) extends parallel to a tangent to the curved surface section (9.1) of the curved guide plate (9).
The direction changing plate (10) prevent movement of the web (W ) into the area of the upper detaching roller (4) and clearer roller (11) bearing on the upper detaching rollers (2, 4), to eliminate the risk of lapping . The direction changing plate (10) may be mounted on the machine frame. The guide plate (9) is preferably made of sheet metal and the direction changing plate (10) is preferably made of non metallic materials such as poly carbonate or acrylic. The web (W) deflected on the direction

changing plate (10) is diverted to a second section (9.2) of the curved guide plate (9) and is guided smoothly towards the delivery rollers (5,6).
