A device produces a perceptually weighted signal (sw) in response to a wideband signal (114) in order to reduce a difference between a weighted wideband signal and a subsequently synthesized weighted wideband signal. This device comprises a preemphasis filter (103),a synthesis filter calculator (104) and a perceptual weighting filter (105). The filter (103) enhances a high frequency content of the wideband signal (114) to produce a preemphasised signal (s). The calculator (104) produces ,in response to the preemphasised signal (s),synthesis filter coefficients (A(z), A(z).Finally ,the filter (105) processes the preemphasised signal (s) in relation to the synthesis filter coefficients (A(z), A(z) to produce the perceptually weighted signal (sw) .The perceptual weighting filter (105) has a transfer function with fixed denominator whereby weighting of the wideband signal (114) in a format region is substantially decoupled from a spectral tilt of this wideband signal. |
