Abstract  A multi purpose geometrical educational apparatus, which comprises at least one circular disc, a plurality of scales, a plurality of arrows which can be removably fitted to the scales , at least one protractor and a plurality of nuts and bolts for removably fitting the scales to each other and to the disc and to the protractor to configure the apparatus into different geometric representations for teaching and learning purposes.

B201, P.D.CROSS ROAD, THAKURWADI, DOMBIVLI (WEST), DIST. THANE, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA AN INDIAN NATIONAL The following Specification particularly describes the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed : This invention relates to a multipurpose Geometrical Educational apparatus to help students or teachers with learning or teaching problems. To the knowledge of the inventor no similar apparatus is available which can help students or teachers learn or teach the geometrical parts in the text books from STD4th to STD 10th It is envisaged that with the help of this apparatus in accordance with this invention, the following parts can be explained. Line, Line segment, Ray, Angle, Type of Angle, Triangle & its types Quadrilateral & its types Quadrilateral & its types, Circle, Radius, Diameter Chord, Secant, tangent, arc & its types, intercepted arc, inscribed angle, central angle, angle inscribed in a semi circle is a right angle, cyclic quadrilateral & its properties, inscribed angle theorem The measure of an inscribed angle is half the measure of its intercepted arc can be shown practically with the help of this apparatus. According to this invention therefore there is provided a multi purpose geometrical educational apparatus, which comprises at least one circular disc, a plurality of scales, a plurality of arrows which can be removably fitted to the scales , at least one protractor and a plurality of nuts and bolts for removably fitting the scales to each other and to the disc and to the protractor to configure the apparatus into different geometric representations for teaching and learning purposes.. 1 In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention the disc and the scales are provided with slits and holes for fitting the scales and the disc to each other to form the representations. Further, at least one slider is provided which can slide in the slits in the scales for alignment purposes The invention will be more clearly described with reference to figure of accompanying drawing which figures show the layout diagram of the multipurpose geometrical apparatus. Brief description of the figures: Figure 1 is a plan view of the assembled apparatus in accordance with this invention; Figure 2 is another plan view with the protractor [26] removed from the apparatus of figure 1; Figure 3 is a plan view of the apparatus of figure 2 in a different configuration showing the representation of a square; Figure 4 shows the disc which forms part of the apaprtus shown in figures 1 and 2; Figure 5 shows the various parts that are to be fixed to the disc shown in figure 4 to form the apparatus of figure 1; Figure 6 shows the pin which is used to assemble the apparatus of figure 1 from the parts seen in figures 4 and 5; Figure 7 shows the scales which form a part of the apparatus of figure 1 and i 3 Figure 8 shows the scale of the apparatus with an arrow attached thereto to represent a ray; Figure 9 shows two scales of the apparatus connected to each other to represent a line; Figure 10 shows the connection of two scales of the apparatus to represent an angle; Figure 11 shows the connection of three scales of the apparatus to represent a triangle; Figure 12 shows the connection of four scales of the apparatus to represent a quadrilateral; Figure 13 shows the connection of three scales of the apparatus two represent parallel lines and a transversal; Figure 14 shows the representation of the disc to represent a circle; Figure 15 shows the representation of a circle connected to an scale tow represent the radius of a circle; Figure 16 shows the connection of a circle and two scales to represent a diameter; Figure 17 shows the connection between the circle, and four scales to represent angles subtended at the center of a circle and at the circumference; Figure 18 shows the connection between a circle and the scales to represent arcs and other properties of circles; and Figure 19 shows scales and the protractor connected to each other to shows a right angled triangle. Referring to figure in which the apparatus generally indicated by the reference numeral 10 consists of circular disc (12) of wooden/metal or plastic which forms the base of the apparatus. Markings from 0° to 360° is 4 done on the disc 12. There is a slit SI provided from up/front side in which nut and bolts 20,22 can move freely. Long and short scales 14, 16 are connected with nutbolt 20,22 are adjustable because of slits S2 in scales. The scales 20 and 22 & protractor 26 are connected with nut bolt 20 22 . The protractor measures the inscribed angle. The apparatus also includes sliders in the form of runner pieces 24 which move in the slits S2 for alignment. The various components of the apparatus 10 are seen in figures 4, 5 and 6 in a disassembled view. The disc 12 also has a hole H in the center in which the nut and bolt can be connected to form various configurations in combination with the scales/scales and the protractor as seen in the figures. In which the 'a' part of the figure represents the apparatus configuration and the 'b' part represents the geometrical equivalent which it represents. The apparatus 10 can be used as a teaching aid in the study of geometry & is very easy to handle & operate. It is also useful to understand original concepts in geometry & in selfstudy. A single scale without arrow represents a line segment A single scale having an arrow at one end represents a ray . By adjusting two scales connected at the ends types of angles can be represented. A Triangle can be represented by connecting three scales with three nut bolts and by adjusting the scales types of triangles can be shown. A Quadrilateral can be represented by connecting 4 scales with 4 nut bolts and by adjusting the scales with the help of slits quadrilateral & its types can be made. A Circle is represented by the disc and with the help of the scales the radius, diameter, chord, secant, tangent can be shown. Various theorems can be proved with the help of the apparatus. Thus the measure of an inscribed angle is half the measure of an angle at the circumference can be shown practically. Similarly, the angle made in a semi circle is always a right angle can be shown practically. At the same time arc types of arc & its measure can be shown directly .The measures of central angle can be shown directly with the help of circular protractor This apparatus is useful in teaching & learning. Geometry fro STD IVth to STD Xth & gives a practical knowledge of geometry. A Taecher can save his time by having to avoid drawing figures on the blackboard while teaching and a student can learn geometry practically. 6 I Claim: [1J A multi purpose geometrical educational apparatus, which comprises at least one circular disc, a plurality of scales, a plurality of arrows which can be removably fitted to the scales , at least one protractor and a plurality of nuts and bolts for removably fitting the scales to each other and to the disc and to the protractor to configure the apparatus into different geometric representations for teaching and learning purposes. [2] A multi purpose geometrical educational apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, in which the disc and the scales are provided with slits and holes for fitting the scales and the disc to each other to form the representations. [3] A multi purpose geometrical educational apparatus, as claimed in claim 1, in which at least one slider is provided which can slide in the slits in the scales for alignment purposes. [4] A multi purpose geometrical educational apparatus, as desc ribed herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
