SUGARCANE DE-TRASHER

Abstract Removal of old dried, yellowish green, bottom leaves of sugarcane crop is called de-trashing. By following, this single, operation we can get several advantages that we can reduce the pest menace like, pyrilla, white flies, mealy bugs, inter node borer and can remove the sprouted buds in the cane stalk. Behind this, aeration and sanitation of the cane field can be improved and it reduced the rodent and reptile problems also. This can improve the cane yield and quality. Earlier, labourers have done de-trashing, particularly by women labours. The drudgery involved in this operation make the labourers not to come for the work. Though, several advantages are there, fanners unable to do this operation due to unavailability of labours. If any tool which facilitates this operation is much useful to the cane fanners. Hence, this tool (Sugarcane de-trasher - Karumpuk kathi) was designed in such a way to improve the labours efficiency by decreasing drudgery facing by them. De-trasher has been used for de-trashing of cane in the farmer's holding and found the cost of de-trashing was reduced to the tune of 60 per cent as compared to the cost of de-trashing, without tool.

I Claim:
1. A Sugarcane de trasher consisting of two knives (1) for detaching the leaves
from the side of the stalk of the sugarcane attached to flat bar (4), provides
tension between the two knives, where in the flat bar fixed at the top of
galvanized iron pipe (5) which acts as a handle.
2. According to claims the distance between the two knives can be adjusted by
providing ring (2) at the bottom of the knives.
