Abstract

The present invention relates to an electrical wiring accessory comprising, a front plate with one or more devices such as actuators of electrical switching devices and energy regulators, connectors, socket outlets and combinations of these characterized in that a well defmed area on front face of the said electrical wiring accessory has a reduced thickness making the said defined area translucent in order to provide an indication when an illuminating device is located behind the front face to illuminate to said defined area.

The invention relates to an electrical wiring accessory comprising a front plate with one or more devices such as actuators of electrical switching devices and energy regulators connectors, socket outlets and combination of these. Some of the electrical wiring accessories of the type described above which are known in the art are provided with a transparent indicating part fitted on the front face of the electrical wiring accessory, so that, an indicator lamp provided behind the front face of the electrical wiring accessory will indicate whether the power is ON or OFF. The manufacture of such an electrical wiring accessory necessitates making of the indicating part separately and fitting it to the electrical wiring accessory. Further the electrical wiring accessories which do not require the indicating part has to be made in a separate batch during production. The dealers and retailers should also carry stocks of both types to meet the different requirement in the market. The object of the invention is to provide an electrical wiring accessory with one or more devices such as actuators of electrical switching devices and energy regulators, connectors, socket outlets and combination of these without having a separate indicating part. Another object of the invention is to provide an electrical wiring accessory having a uniform front face, irrespective of it having an indicating facility. It is economical to produce a uniform component and to hold stocks of such components than producing two types of cotnponents and carry their stock. In the electrical wiring accessory according to the invention, a specific area on the face of the accessory has reduced thickness to make it translucent. When a light emitting device is placed behind that specific area, it will act as an indicator since the specific area on the surface of the accessory will glow when the light emitting device is energised. For those accessories without indicating means. the accessory need not have the light-emitting device. However the front face can be the same as that of the one with indicating means if the illuminating source is not provided behind the front face. Aesthetic appearance of the electrical wiring accessory according to the invention is superior to a corresponding electrical wiring accessory known in the prior art. Accordingly the present invention provides an electrical wiring accessory comprising, a front plate with one or more devices such as actuators of electrical switching devices and energy regulators, connectors, socket outlets and combinations of these characterised in that a well defined area on front face of the said electrical wiring accessory has a reduced thickness making the said defined area translucent, in order to provide ON/OFF indication when an illuminating device is located behind the front face to illuminate said detined area. The electrical accessory according to the invention w^ill be described w^ith reference to the accompanying draw^ings. Figure 1 shows the front view of the electrical wiring accessory according to the invention. Figure 2 shows the side view of the electrical wiring accessory according to the invention. Figure 3 shows the cross-sectional view^ along the line AA indicated in figure 1. Figure 4 shows the front view of a different embodiment of the electrical wiring accessory according to the invention. Figure 5 shows the side-view of the embodiment shown in figure 4. Figure 6 shows the sectional view along B-B indicated in figure 4. The electrical wiring accessory according to the uivention shown in the figures comprises a front plate (1) with one or more devices (2) such as actuator, connector, socket outlet, energy regulator and combinations of these. A well defined area (3) on the front face of the accessory has a reduced thickness so that when illuminated from the back side of the electrical accessory said well defined area glows. Thus an illuminating device such as a pilot lamp or light emitting diode provided behind the front face, fijnctions as an ON/OFF indicator of the electrical wiring accessory without any indicator window attachment on the front face. The defmed area (3) having reduced thickness may be on the front plate (1) or on a device (2) attached to the front plate. For example the defined area (3) having reduced thickness may be on the actuator (2) as shown m fiRures 4 to The electrical wiring accessory according to the invention is economical to manufacture. Same type of electrical wiring accessory may be used with indicating type and non-indicating type and therefore holding the stock is made simple and economic. WE CLAIM : 1- An electrical wiring accessory comprising, a front plate (1) with one or more devices (2) such as actuators of electrical switching devices and energy regulators connectors, socket outlets and combinations of these characterised in that a well defined area (3) on front face of the said electrical wiring accessory has a reduced thickness making the said defined area (3) translucent in order to provide an indication when an illuminating device is located behind the front face to illuminate to said defined area (3). 2. The electrical wiring accessory as claimed in claim 1, wherein the well defined area (3) of reduced thickness is on the front plate (1). 3. The electrical wiring accessory as claimed in claim 1, wherein the well defined area (3) of reduced thickness is on an actuator or energy regulator. 4. An electrical wiring accessory, substantially as hereinabove described and illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings.
