A DENIER DETECTION DEVICE FOR USE IN A SILK REELING MACHINE

Abstract This invention relates to a denier detection device to be used in a silk reeling machine comprisingg a denier mounting set provided with a denier detector,a simultaneous denier adjustment member is provided with said denier detector.
Full Text FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a denier detection device to used in a silk reeling machine to produce uniform denier of raw silk thread.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
In the present system of reeling, a reeler maintains the required number of cocoons for the production of particular denier purely on the basis of its skill. Thus, production of uniform denier silk depends largely on the skill of the reeler.
The main disadvantage of the present system is that, as there is variation in the filament denier within the cocoon as also between cocoons, the skill of the reeler has limitations in terms of producing uniform denier of international grade. The skill of the reeler is limited and has tendency to feed cocoons whether required or not which leads always t coarser denier and fails to produce a targeted denier and gradable quality of raw silk.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
Therefore, the main object of the present
invention is to provide a simple effective denier
detection device which provides the reeler to monitor
the denier of the raw silk being reeled and take quick
corrective measures.
Another object of the present invention is to
provide a denier detection device whiich reduces the
stress and thereby less fatigue on the part of the
reeler to intently watch the number of cocoons being
reeled,
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a denier detection device which improves the uniformity characterstics of raw silk.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a denier detection device which is inexpensive and can be fitted into an existing reeling machine, both cottage basin and multiend reeling machine.

STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a denier detection device for use in a silk reeling machine comprising a denier mounting set provided with a denier detector, a simultaneous denier adjustment member is provided with said denier detector.
DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 shows a thread passage diagram of a multiend silk reeling
machine with denier detector of the present invention
Fig. 2 shows the denier detector mounting set
Fig. 3 shows an exploded view of the denier detector and its parts
Fig. 4 shows simultaneous denier adjustment apparatus.
In accordance with the present invention, a denier detector devjfiie^an be
easily fitted on to a reeling machine. Such arrangements"%m present
layout of the reeling (multiend) machine with denier detecting device is
showed in Fig. 1. The cooked (boiled) coccons (2)
are placed in the reeling basin (1) and the multiple

filaments are gathered to make thread are passed through
the Jetteboute (3) and button (4) and on the croissure pulley and croissure (5) is introduced in the filaments
thread. The thread then passes through a denier detector (8), tension pulley (7), thread guide (10) and
finally wound on reel (11).
Denier detector (8) is placed in a metal insert
(13) (Fig- 2) fixed inside a denier detector mounting bracket (16), in which balancing lever (12) and infrared
sensor (17) are also placed (Fig. 2). Back metal pin (22) of Fig. 3 of the denier detector (8) rests on
balancing lever (12). One end of the balance weight chain (14) is connected to balance lever (12) and other
end of the chain is connected to simultaneous denier adjustment apparatus (Fig. 4).
Denier detector mounting set consist of denier detector mounting bracket (16), denier detector (8),
balancing lever (12) and infrared sensor (17) is fixed in the reeling machine.
A denier indicating lamp (9) is fixed below the
thread guide. Infrared sensor (17) and indicating lamp (9) ar& connected to a power source.

The denier detector (8) operates on friction
principle. The raw silk thread passes through sensing
(friction) plates (24, 26) of denier detector (8) causes
frictional force that positions the denier indicating plate (20). When the denier of the raw silk being
reeled is equal to the set denier, the frictional resistance caused due to its contact with the sensing
plates (24, 26) would hold the denier indicating plate (20) upright as the sensing plates (24, 26) and denier
indicating plate (20) are fixed together- However, if the denier becomes finer the denier indicating plate
(20) tilts downward due to the variation in the frictional resistance. In this position the front metal
pin (21) attached to the denier indicating plate (20) comes in the way of infrared beam emitted from the
sensor (17) and cuts off the beam. This in turn glows the indicator lamp (9) which draws the attention of the
reeler to cast the cocoons. This casting of the fresh cocoons filament increases raw silk denier. When the
corrected raw silk denier matches the set denier, the fictional resistance moves the denier indicating plate
(20) to upright position there by turning off the

indicating lamp (9). Denier detector (Fig. 3) consists
of two parallel denier sensing plates (24, 26) of ground glass with a thickness maintaining spacers (25) in
between, which has thickness corresponding to the target denier of raw silk. A denier indicating plate (crank)
(20) with a definite length and weight is attached such that balancing of unit is performed for a particular
denier of yarn. Brass balancing plate (19) is used to balance the denier detector. The movement of the denier
indicating plate (20) of the detector in downward and upward direction will vary with the variation in denier
of raw silk. This movement of the denier indicating plate (20) as per the denier of the raw silk has been
utilised to give light signal to the reeler with the help of infrared sensor (17) and indicating lamp (9).
Bolt (18) washers (23, 27, 28) and nut (29) are the parts of the detector used to fix together the brass
balancing plate (19), denier indicating plate (20), sensing plates (24, 26), thickness maintaining films
(25) in between sensing plates, property and balancing of the detector unit is performed for a particular
denier of the yarn.

Denier detecting unit (8) works on the friction
principle- But friction between raw silk and the denier detector are affected by cocoon characterstics (like
distribution of cocoon filament denier, denier of cocoon filament etc.), cocoon cooking conditions, reeling
speed, temperature of reeling water, ambient temperature and humidity etc. and hence affecting the targeted
average denier of raw silk even though same denier detector is used. In such a situation by using
simultaneous denier adjustment apparatus (Fig. 4), adjustment of the friction between detector and raw is
made by adjusting the balance weight chain length (14) attached to the balancing lever (12) in order to meet
the targeted average denier.
Simultaneous denier adjustment apparatus (Fig. 4)
consists of a central shaft (30) which runs throughout the length of the machine. On this shaft, one worm
wheel (31) is mounted behind each reeling end of the reeling machine. On worm wheels (31), denier detector
balancing weight chain (14) is mounted and other end of

the chain is connected to balancing lever (12) placed in
the denier detector mounting bracket (16, Fig. 2). To the left hand side of the reeling machine, on the
central shaft (30) denier regulating dial (32) is mounted. Adjustment of the balance weight chain is made
by turning the balancing weight chain adjusting handle (33) on denier regulating dial so that all the denier
detectors on one side of the reeling machine will be adjusted simultaneously.
The test results of the raw silk reeled with and
without denier detecting device are given in table—1 and 2. It can be seen from the table that, the size
deviation, maximum deviation and evenness characteristics of raw silk reeled with the denier
detecting device are of superior grade than the raw silk reeled without this new technology.
