Title of Invention

HIGH PRESSURE PUMP FOR UES IN PETROL FUEL-COMMON RAIL SYSTEM

Abstract APPLICATION NO.354/MAS/2002 ABSTRACAT The Invention relates to a hight pressue single cylinder reciprocating plunger type pump to deliver fuel into the common nil of Fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines consisting of monoblack housing a plunger and a input/output valve driven by a roller tappet used mutilobed cam wherein input valve in a section valve and output valve is a delivery valve such thtat section valve allows metered quantity of fuel into the pump embumber during downward strioke of plunger and delivery fuel allowing fuel into common rail during upward stroke of plunger.

A high pressure pump is recommended for common rall system used on multi

In operation, ojnventfonat high pressire punps maintatn the solenoid valves in a normally open position and fuel flows into and fills the pumping chambers during the refraction stroke of the pimiptng plunger, Whw> the pumping plunger starts Its compression stroke. lUel spflls through the open solenoid valve untlll it receives a command signal to close.
At that point, the fual remaining in the pumping chamber fs trapped and pressurized by the pumping plunger which causes the Ajel to flow to the common reil at high pressure. Since the solenoids are caused to close during the compression stroke of the pumping plunger, ^ey must act against the high pressure of the spilling ^lel to seal. Thus, for durability and cost reasons, there is a need for a high pressure variable displacement pump which can use solenoid valve which need only be able to act in a low pressure range.
A high pressure common rail hiel injection systems for dieset engines as per known art, in which a pair of pumping elements Is controlled by the same solenoid velve. However both of the pumping elements of the pair ti^at is controlled by the same solenoid valve are filled and discharged in unison, and to enable fuel to be supplied to ^e common rail when that pair of pumping elements is being filled, a second pair of pumping elements is provided which is controlled by a second solenoid valve. Thus, it ts desirable to achieve a menner of controlling a plurality of pumping elements via a single solenoid which would enable the pumping elements to be supplied with fuel at different times.
Metering of fuel can be controtl«d in accordance with a number of different
techniques :

Generally a high pressure has the pturallty of pumptng tiamants, tha number of which wilt dapand on capacity. Each of tha pumpimg alaments has a pumptng plungar that is mountad for ractprocation in a cyltndar bora. A pumping chamber it formed in the bore, between an end of the pumping plunger and an outlet of the pumping element through which fuyel( prassurlzad bv said pumping plunger Is supplied to B common rail of a fuel injection ystem.

- an Inlet/outlet valve(3) having an Inlet suction valve connected to the low |»-es5ure fuel chambw and an outlet delivery valve to deliver pressurized fud to a common rail,
- a delivery valve hotd«t4) oHinectlng the ouHet dellvuy valve and a common rail,
'O' rings(8) provide the low pressure sealing,
wheran the roller teppet (9) rides elong the lobes(of the rotating cam (10) to produce the upward downward displacement of the pumping plunger

(2),
wherein the bottom spring plate (7) via plunger spring (5) transfer motion from roller tappet (9) to plung«- (2),
wherein when the said reciprocating plunger (2) moves downward the suction value opens to allow a specific quality of fud into the pump element;

wherein when the said reciprocating plunger (2) moves upward the delivery velve opens to allow pressurized fuel through DV holder (4) wito common rail.
Thus the ofcttects of the tonrantion «« acMevad. Features mnd advantages of the present invention ere apporent as described in the preceding paras and illustrated in the accompanying drawings. As such the invention has the advantages and features that era desired. The futures mentioned in the deims and In the description can be essential and the foregoing relates to the preferred embodiments of the invention. It Is stated that other variables and embodlmants thereof arm possible within the scope end spirit of the invenbon.
