Title of Invention

A PLUCKING HEAD ASSEMBLY OF A FIBRE PLUCKING MACHINE

Abstract This invention relates to a plucking head assembly for a fibre plucking Ilachine. It consists of a roller with at least one plate disposed circumferential there to the plates are provided with holdirlg mesons for detachably mounting strips. These strips have multiple teeth disposed thereon.
Full Text This invention relates to a plucking head assembly for a fibre plucking machine.
In textile processing, fibre plucking machine are used to pluck fibre from the stock of fibre being processed. Plucking head arrangement conventionally mounted on a twin table consists of one or more plucking rollers, having a plurality of plucking teeth disposed on the outer surface thereof. Plucking teeth are essential elements in the machine as when the plucking head travels on and above the stock of fibres to be processed, said plucking rollers pick up the fibers with the help of the plucking teeth provided thereon.
In the conventional machines, plucking teeth form an integral part of the roller and are fixed permanently thereon by welding or such other means. This arrangement is found disadvantageous as failure of a single tooth in the assembly necessitates replacement of the entire roller assembly. In order to avoid this disadvantage, rollers with multiple segments were constructed where each roller is divided into different segments and each segment is provided with fixed teeth thereon. These segments constitute the entire roller assembly. Though this avoids replacement of the entire roller in case of damage or failure of a single tooth as replacement of the damaged segment alone is sufficient. Replacement of segments is also expensive and the down time of the machinery during such replacement is considerably high resulting in production loss. Disassembly of the damaged roller involves removal of contact rollers and grills which are heavy components leading to high labour.

The objective of this invention is to overcome the above discussed problems, and to minimise labour and downtime of the machinery thereby optimising production and minimising cost. This invention contemplates detachable strips provided with plurality of teeth on the periphery of plucking rollers. Strips with damaged teeth may easily be detached from the surface by the toller and can be replaced with a suitable strip in good condition with minimum downtime of the machinery. Removal of the entire roller or a roller segment is thereby avoided. Disassembly of contact rollers and grills involving time and effort is avoided thereby. This invention is particularly but not exclusively suited for textile machinery having a detachable suction hood which provides easy access to the machinery housed within the plucking machine. The strips may be of any desired length such that more than one strip may be fixed to form a single row of teeth. Strips may be fastened to the places with the help of threaded insertion.
This invention relates to a plucking head assembly for a fibre plucking machine which comprises atleast one plucking roller provided with at least one plate circumferential thereto, and atleast one detachable strip mountable on said plate each of said detachable step having a row of teeth disposed thereon.

This invention will now be described with reference to fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings which shows the front view of the roller assembly.
Reference letters (PR) indicate the plucking roller. Plates provided circumferential there to is shown by reference numeral (3). These plates have provisions like grooves for detachably holding the strips. Detachably mounted strip is indicated by reference numeral (2) and the teeth arranged on said strip are shown by reference numeral (1). This strips may be mounted on the plates by easily detachable means.
The application no. 196/MAS/99 describes and claims a detachable suction hood for a fibre processing machine.
The application no. 197/MAS/99 describes and claims a drive system for rotating a turn table of a fibre plucking machine.
The application no. 198/MAS/99 describes and claims an interchangeable grill assembly for textile plucking machine.
The application no. 199/MAS/99 describes and claims a device for locking a plucking head of a fibre plucking machine.
The application no. 200/MAS/99 describes and claims a device for lifting and lowering the head assembly of a fibre plucking machine.
Though the invention has been described herein above with a specific embodiment, alteration and modification known to person skilled in the art are within the scope of the appended claims.

WE CLAIM :
1. A plucking head asseobly for a fibre plucking nachine comprising atleast one plucking roller provided with at least one plate clrcunferential thereto, and atleast one detachable strip mountabie on said plate each of said detachable strip having a row of teeth disposed thereon.
2. The plucking head asseaibiy as claiiied in claim 1, wherein said plate is permanently fixed to said roller assembly and has provisions for holding the strips thereon.
3. The plucking head assembly as claimed in claims 1 and 2, wherein the provisions for holding the strips consists of grooves.
4. The plucking head assembly as claimed in claims 1 to 3, wherein each strip consists of a plurality of segments, each segment being provided with/a rowina teeth.
5. The plucking head assembly as claimed in claims 1 to 4, wherein said strip are fastened to the plates by known fastening means such as threaded fastening means.

6. A plucking head asseiaibly for a fibre plucking nachine, substantially as hereinabove described with particular reference to the figures in the accompanying drawings.
