Title of Invention | A DEVICE FOR LIFTING SEA WATER BY HARNESSING LINETIC ENERGY OF SEA WAVES |
---|---|
Abstract | This invention relates to a device for lifting sea water utilising the kinetic energy of sea waves. It consists of a venturi and a delivery system. The venturi has a movable floating valve fixed thereto and obstructions to limit its movement in the venturi. The delivery system consists of a hollow tubular body which houses a non-return valve, sieve means and connecting means to connect the tubular body to conduit of desired length extending to storage tanks located either on or off-shore. |
Full Text | This invention relates to a device for lifiting sea water by re's water resources are depleting at an alarning rat the water pumped up to the delivey system can be transported to to a storage tank, Frequency of wave formation and its impact will reduce anyn back pressure likely to be formed in the system The device according to this invention will, now be described in detail with reference to the single figure in the accompanying, drawings. The converging and diverging duct venturi is depicted by reference letter Y, Reference letters FB indicate the floating ball which is fixed at point F and weighted with weight W« The link means connecting and fixing the floating ball allowing restricted movement to it is indicated by reference letter R, The letters DS represent the delivery system which is a hollow tubular body housing a non-return valve D ,connecting means CM connect pipe P for transporting water to tank T which may be located on or off-shore, N indicates sieve means such as wire mesh or net of non-corrosive nature to prevent the entry of suspended materials into the delivery system. The dotted lines indicate sea water and the arrows show the flow direction of the incoming waves. Optionally a sieving or netting arrangement may be provided at the mouth of the venturi which is indicated by letter N1. Though the invention has been described herein above with a specific embodiment, obvious equivalents known to persons skilled in the art are not excluded from the scope of this invention and the appended claims. I CLAIM 1. A device for lifting sea water by harnessing kinetic energy of sea waves comprising a venturi (v) consisting of a convergent and divergent duct with a narrow waist, the said venturi housing a floating ball (FB) movably fixed thereto; the divergent portion of the said venturi having constrictions (O) to obstruct the passage of the floating ball, therethrough ; the converging region of the venturi being provided with a delivery system (DS) consisting of a hollow tubular body housing a non-return valve (NY) and having connecting means (CM) for connecting a conduit (C) for transporting sea water to a storage tank T and sieve means (N)for blocking the entry of suspended matter thereunto, 2. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein sieve means (M1) are also provided at the mouth of the venturi. 3. The device as claimed in claims 1 & 2 wherein the sieve means is wire mesh or net of non-corrosive type, 4. The device as claimed in any of the above claims wherein the floating ball is movably fixed to the venturi by link means such as chain or rope. 5. The device as claimed in claims 1 to 4 wherein the conduit means is a pipe of any desired length. 6. The device as claimed in claim 5 wherein the pipe is flexible and is provided with support means. 7. The device as claimed in any of claims 5 or 6 wherein the the delivery end of the pipe is fixed to the storage tank, 8, The device as claimed in claims 1 to 7 wherein the storage tank is located either on or off-shore and is above the sea level. 9. The device as claimed in claim 1 to 3 mounted on a floating body fixed to the sea bed where maximum wave formations occur. 10. The device as claimed in any of the above claims wherein the venturi and the delivery system are made out of corrosion resistant material such as stainless steel or fibre glass. 11, A device for lifting sea water by harnessing kinetic energy of sea waves substantially as herein described with reference to the single figure in the accompanying drawings. |
