Title of Invention

''IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO THE MANUFACTURE OF PEDALLING SYSTEM FOR DEVIECES HAVING PEDALLING SYSTEMS SUCH AS BICYCLES, TRICYCLES OF THE LIKE''

Abstract ABSTRACT IMPROVEMENT IN PEDALING SYSTEMS In the pedaling system of the conventional type the human foot effort is applied on the sprocket shaft. In the invented pedaling system, the human foot effort is applied adjacent to the teeth of the sprocket. This is similar to that of a flywheel of a machine or a village grain's grinder wherein the handle is provided at the edge and not at the center. Normally there is one set of pedaling system consisting of a sprocket, a pedal, a pedal rod, a chain and a freewheel provided on one side of the sprocket shaft in the conventional pedaling system. In the invented system, there are two similar sets of pedaling systems, one set on each side of the sprocket shaft, wherein the human foot effort is applied adjacent to the teeth of the sprocket in each set.
Full Text It has hitherto- been known to manufacture
pedalling system for bicycles or the like, the
hitherto known pedalling systems consisting of a sprocket which drives a toothed freewheel
a chain. The sprocket is connected to
a shaft, which shaft is connected to two pedals
one on the right of the sprocket and another on
the left of the same sprocket the two pedals
are connected to the so that they are
opposite to each other by 180 on either side
of the slice shaft. Usually, during the first
half cycle rotation of the sprocket when the
effort of foot pressure is applied On the right
pedal* the foot pressure energy flows through
a rod on the right of the sprocket connecting
the right pedal and the shaft, thereby exerting
a torque on the shaft on right side where the
foot pressure is applied. During the second
half cycle of rotation of the sprocket when
the effort of foot pressure is applied on the
left pedal, the foot pressure energy flows through
a rod on the left of the sprocket connecting
the left pedal and the said shaft, thereby
exerting a torque on the shaft on the left
side where the foot pressure is applied. The
first an of the sprocket.

A chain connecting the sprocket and a toothed free wheel rotates the toothed The toothed freewheel which is connected to the rear wheel of the bicycle drives the bicycle forward.
The hitherto known bicycles with pedalling system
to the objection that,
there is transmission loss from the point of the effort on the pedal up to the point Of load over the sprocket via rod, shaft and the sprocket,
Rioter objection is that,
the foot pressure on the pedal causes a
twisting force on the shaft via a rod. The twisting force on the shaft rotates the sprocket. The sprocket teeth then pull the chain connected to the freewheel. There is loss of energy in twisting the shaft through a rod. Also there is loss of energy from shaft up to the point of load on the sprocket teeth.
The object of the present Invention is to develop a bicycle with a pedalling system which will be free from the above mentioned draw backs.
Another object is to develop a bicycle pedalling system which will have optimum utilization of human pedalling effort.

causing further loss of foot pressure energy. The pedal is situated in a vertical plane different from the vertical plane of the teeth of the sprocket, causing further loss of foot pressure energy While transmission of energy in 3 y-shaped path via sprocket shaft.
In the Invented system the foot pressure is applied directly adjacent to the teeth of the sprocket resulting in full utilization of the foot pressure.
In \h& invented system a left pedalling
system is provided in addition to the
i right pedalling system whereby the left foot
pressure is also directly and optimally utilised.
