Field of Invention:
This invention relates to Ball Drive Flow Control Valve. This invention pertains to the regulation and distribution of protected drinking water supply in the Corporation, Municipal and Town Panchayath. This Invention relates to an improvement or modification of the invention contained in the patent application numbered 153 / MAS/99. This invention addresses to over come a problem associated with the Invention, In order to over come the problem some structural changes or modifications are made which has resulted in the improvement of the invention. The essential nature of the invention and the modification incorporated in the device are explained in detail, in the following description.
Background of Invention:
In the present Government supply mode, the regulation of water supply is done by using the ferrule Cock to the individual customer from the main source.
However this scheme does not fulfill its purpose well as envisaged by the Govt, as the consumer is at ease to draw extra water than the stipulated by using suction electric motor or pump over the ferrule cock. Hence, the Govt, scheme is not only violated in distribution but also results in loss to the corporation.
The Inventive future and scope of the invention contained in the claims of the parent application is as follows:-
Apparatus for controlling and regulating the flow of drinking water in public drinking water distribution system through pipe lines, that is actuated at the predetermined pressures; comprising, an external main body, main flow path having a ball within the said body, to regulate and control the predetermined quantity of water; said main flow path having an Inlet and Outlet for flow of water, through the Inlet and the flow lifts the ball at the main flow path; water flows through the specified flow path inside the body wherein ball is moved by upstream pressure according to variable pressure rate and controls the discharge of water to the designed flow rate through the outlet; said outlet be closed by the ball and water supply get stopped when the Pressure exceeds than the predetermined pressures.
The object of this invention is to eradicate the defects of the existing system and to develop a fool¬proof device for the equal water distribution, which not only allows the stipulated rate of flow or prevents the illegal tapping of water but also stops the return flow from the sewage, which is a major problem for the society in the contamination of drinking water. It is also the object of the invention to have device, which is very simple in construction, easy for operation and also available at affordable cost.
The structural changes and modification are the improvements of the invention to over come the problems associated with the invention. The modification in the existing device is done at the outlet area of the valve for regulate water supply at the stipulated quantity according to the high pressure or illegal tapping by electric motor. In this system, a notch has provided at the inner orifice of the outlet which allows the stipulated rate of supply at the time of high pressure or in case of illegal tapping of water by electric motors. That is if the rate of flow of supply exceeds in maximum pressure the ball is stressed beyond and thereby closes the outlet inner orifice and the notch controls the flow of water discharge to the specified rate.

The another change to the existing device has done in the external body, at the both neck portion of the valve. Two tamper proof grooves(under cut ) are provided at the both neck portion to avoid tampering attempt to remove the ball by the end users in order to draw more water.
According to the above, the Apparatus for controlling and regulating the flow of drinking Water in Public drinking water distribution system through pipe lines, that is actuated by ball drive flow control system at the predetermined pressures; comprising, an external main body, main flow path having a ball within the said body to regulate and control the predetermined quantity of water; Said main flow path having an Inlet and Outlet for flow of water, through the Inlet the flow lifts the ball at the main flow path; water flows through the specified flow path inside the body wherein ball is moved by upstream pressure according to variable pressure rate and controls the discharge of water to the designed flow rate through the outlet; said out let has a notch provision for high pressure flow control such that the ball is lifted up due to higher pressure and closes the outlet inner orifice and the notch controls the flow of water discharge to the specified rate.
Now the invention will be more clearly described with the figures of the drawings which accompany the complete specification.
The following of the drawings shows another embodiment wherein the position of the ball under different working condition is illustrated.
Fig.l of the drawing shows the sectional view of flow control valve for house service connection.
Fig.2 of the drawing shows the first working condition at minimum operating pressure 0.01 kgf (10 cm Head). It is seen from the drawings that the S.S. Ball is lifted up when flow enters in to the flow control valve.
Fig.3 of the drawings shows the working condition of flow control valve wherein the ball is nearly in the middle of the flow path. The normal operating pressure at this condition is around 3.0 m Head to 6.0 m Head. It is to be noted that the S.S. Ball floats at appropriate levels to allow the designed quantity of water.
Fig.4 of the drawings shows the 3rd working condition wherein the ball is nearly at the outlet of the flow control valve at this working condition, the pressure level will be 6.0 m Head and above. This condition is comparable to a situation of using electric suction motor. Here the flow is designed such that the flow is allowed only through the notch.
Fig.5 shows that fourth working condition of flow control valve wherein the device has to functions
a) It controls return flow from house holds when distribution is closed.
b) Functions as a non return valve.
The Ball Drive Flow Control Valve has the following main components:
1 .The Exterior Metallic Body
2.1nlet
3.Ball
4.Ball Drive Flow Path
5.0utlet
6.Notch
7.Groove (Under Cut)
8.1nner Orifice

The valve has a body (1) made up of metal such as Brass, Stainless Steel metal. The inlet (2) is provided at the bottom of the valve. The ball (3) within the flow path could be driven by the flow through the flow path. (4) The flow path is defined with the inlet and outlet as its two ends. (2 & 5) The outlet is at the top of the valve from where distribution pipe is fitted. Notch is designated by numeral (6) Two Groove (Undercut) (7) provided at the valves both neck portion and Inner Orifice (8) are defined by design consideration.
The Ball Drive Flow Control Valve is to be kept vertical. The ball (3) within normally rests at the bottom of the flow path closing over the inlet.
The ball (3) is lifted and driven through the flow path by the pressure of the inflow. The ball (3) and the valve whose technical specifications are designed to suit a desired particular maximum pressure of flow. That is if the rate of flow of supply exceeds the maximum pressure the ball is stressed beyond and thereby closes the outlet inner orifice and the notch controls the flow of water discharge to the specified rate.
If water falls down through the flow path, It has to find the ball as the block to pass further out through the inlet as the ball rests down closing.
The invention is a mechanized water distribution control valve. This is a self functioning valve. The main function of the Ball Drive Flow Control Valve is based on the Ball Drive System within the valve. This valve must be mounted at the vertical position. The valve has two openings. One is the inlet (2) for water from below and the one at the top of the valve is the outlet (5) for the water supply. There is a flow path (4) in between the inlet and outlet for the stipulated volume of water to pass. A ball is placed in the flow path, which would be driven to and fro within the flow path by flow pressure.
The salient future of the invention:-
a) It controls illegal tapping by electric motor and return flow from households when distribution is closed.
b) Functions as a Non Return Valve.
c) The Ball drive flow control valve is made up metal such as Brass or Stainless Steel etc.
d) The inlet is provided at the bottom of the valve.
e) The ball with in the ball drive flow control valve could be driven by the flow through the flow path.
f) The Ball Drive flow path with the inlet and outlet as its two end.
g) The outlet at the top of the valve from where distribution pipe is fitted
h) The Notch at the out let end to stipulate the quantity of discharge in case of suction motor takes place
I) Two tamper proof grooves (under cut) are provided at the valves both neck portion to avoid tampering attempt to remove the ball by the users in order to draw more water
