Full Text | FIELD The invention relates to a clamping platen for use in clamping system, of injection molding machine. BACKGROUND Clamping unit of injection molding machine consists of three clamping platens, namely, stationery platen, movable platen and tail stock platen. This invention is also applicable to any two-platen type clamping system. The main functions of these three platens are to provide surface to mount molding tool, to transmit the necessary clamping force and to provide rigid support during injection molding process in order to prevent flashing of plastic molding parts. The present shape of platens are usually arranged in rectangular format (Fig. 1), its base plate is always in rectangular shape, and so is the reinforce structure on top of it, and, therefore, it has several critical deficiencies. 1. Poor force transmission 2. High stress concentration. 3. Uneven distribution of stress field. Consequently, it is not possible to achieve uniform stress distribution condition, and eventually that affects the platen stiffness and service life. To overcome the above problems the present invention provides a clamping platen for use in clamping system of injection molding machine, said clamping platen comprising: a rectangular base plate with a circular hole at the centre and an inner circular shape reinforce structure provided therewithin; thickness of said base plate being less than 1/3 of the total thickness of the clamping platen; four guiding holes on four corners of the platen; an outer circular shape (or oval shape) reinforce structure formed on top of the base plate, said outer reinforce structure forming a smooth fillet transmission with the four guiding holes; and radial reinforce wedges provided in between the inner circular shape reinforce structure and the outer reinforce structure. -2- BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS Fig. 1 presents rectangular shape clamping platen (Stationary platen) of prior art; and Fig. 2 presents new double circular clamping platen (Stationary platen) according to this invention. DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT. The new double circular clamping platen is capable to solve the above problems based on large amount of research study. This invention could potentially reduce stress concentration, streamline the stress distribution field and finally results in a more reliable clamping platen. The circular clamping platen (shown in Fig.2) consists of one rectangular base plate (2), normally its thickness being less than 1/3 of the total thickness of the platen, four guiding holes (3) on four corners of the platen, one inner circular shape reinforce structure (4) provided within a circular hole at the centre of the platen, reinforce wedges (6) provided in between the inner circular shape reinforce structure (4) and radial outer circular shape (or oval shape) reinforce structure (5), built on top of the base plate, said outer reinforce structure (5) forming a smooth fillet transmission with the four guiding holes. Parts 4 and 5 form a "double circular shape structure". The whole structure could be made in cast iron, cast spheriodal graphite iron or cast steel. The outer reinforce structure is not provided in hitherto known clamping platens, as can be seen form Fig. l of the drawings, wherein individual parts have been marked by same reference numerals. According to finite element analysis using software, package COSMOS, result showing the following advantages of double circular clamping platen over the traditional rectangular one. -3- 1. Because of perfect symmetrical structure base on circular shape features, there is no acute change of shape around the perimeter of the circular structure which reduces the change of stress concentration significantly. This structure can provide an even distribution of stress field and has a clear advantage of comparatively shorter force transmission path and better efficiency on force propagation. A clamping platen with higher stiffness is resulted. 2. With this new double circular shape structure, the total volumetric usage of material is reduced by 10%, the highest stress value is reduced by 2%, and deformation is also reduced by 5%. If the platen is made under the same volumetric condition, double circular shape structure can further reduce the stress concentration to 6.79%, the deformation to 6.70%. To conclude, this double circular shape structure and precisely calculated reinforce wedge dimension and arrangement, could satisfy the predefined safety factor requirement, and come with additional advantages of material saving, higher stiffness and better strength. 4 WE CLAIM : 1. A clamping platen for use in clamping system of injection molding machine, said clamping platen comprising: a rectangular base plate with a circular hole at the centre and an inner circular shape reinforce structure provided therewithin; thickness of said base plate being less than 1/3 of the total thickness of the clamping platen; four guiding holes on four corners of the platen; an outer circular shape (or oval shape) reinforce structure formed on top of the base plate, said outer reinforce structure forming a smooth fillet transmission with the four guiding holes; and radial reinforce wedges provided in between the inner circular shape reinforce structure and the outer reinforce structure. 2. A clamping platen for use in clamping system of injection molding machine substantially as herein described, particularly with reference to the accompanying drawings.
