Abstract An improved metal fixture useful for holding electrical bulb which comprises; a seamless molded metal sheet with a top section and a bottom section, the said sections having gradually variable thickness, a pair of oppositely cut j slots in the said metal molded sheet, plurality of equidistant rectangular slots on the upper portion of the seamless molded metal sheet.
Full Text The present invention relates to an improved metal fixture useful for holding
electrical bulb
More particularly the present invention provides a method for manufacture of
metal fixture.
Bakelite Bulb Holder Brass Rings are used for holding the bulb and
connecting the bulb terminals with the electrical terminals of the bakelite
holder. If the bulb is not fixed into the brass ring firmly and appropriately or is
loose, it would invariably lead to loose connection leading to bulbs getting
fused or falling of bulb out of the holder and breaking, which is dangerous and
likely to cause injury.
The strips are rounded for being affixed to the holders by means of hand
presses and a slit in the form of letter J is cut in the strip which secures and
holds the bulb.
Since the ring is made of a strip which is rounded by hand press, it tends to
get loose either by imperfect application on to the holder or by the loosening
of bakelite or by the stress caused by the user while fixing and removing the
bulb leading to loosening of the J-section causing the bulb to fall out of the
holder. The only option the user has in such a case is to replace the entire
holder as the ring cannot be detached or disassociated from the holder since
the bakelite of the holder is well fixed into the holes of the rings.
The present invention relates to an improved metal fixture useful for holding electric bulb comprises a seamless metal cap characterized in the sense that the said seamless metal cap is molded in a taper section and a
pair of oppositely cut J slots in the said molded cap, plurality of equidistant rectangular slots in the upper portion of the said molded cap. The thickness or the gauge of the strips in the prior art remains the same which normally is 26 and 24 gauge (0.46 mm). This being thin, leads to invariable twisting and distortion of J-section of the ring with application of slight stress or pressure.
In the drawing accompanying this specification Fig 1 shows the prior art brass Rings manufactured from brass sheets which are cut into strips of 1 to 1.2 cms. Prior art Fig 2 shows the sheet joined around the holder but still remain apart. Figs 3 and 4 show the embodiment of Prior art Bakelite Bulb Holder Brass Rings which are thin and of same gauge from top to bottom. Fig 5 shows the prior art metal fixture used for fixing a bulb. Fig 6 and 7 show an embodiment of the ring of the prior art useful to fix a bulb.
Fig 8 and 9 show an embodiment of the mould used for the preparation of the fixture.
Fig 10 shows an embodiment of the completed metal fixture ready for use. The metal fixture of the present invention is particularly a brass ring. The ring does not have any joints and provides variable thickness/gauge from the top section to the bottom section of the ring. The thickness or gauge of the ring can further be controlled as per the specifications and requirements of the user and the stress that 'J' section is likely to be subjected to. The lack of joint and the thickness of the J-section ensures that the bulb is held by the ring
firmly and does not get twisted, distorted or loose by innumerable applications of stress and pressure. This would lead to the brass ring providing a life time service unless made useless by breakage or damage of the bakelite holder. A method which can be easily applied by a person skilled in the art of metal forming is described hereunder.
Depending upon the quantity or number of rings required, proportionate amount of brass scrap is put into graphite crucibles and kept in a coal pit for melting at a temperature in a range of 850°C to 890° C, though preferable temperature of 880°C temp for approximately one and half hour. While the brass scrap is in the process of melting, a mould is prepared of clay sand and mobile oil and the molten brass is poured into the said moulds. The mould is prepared as per the variable specification of the gauge that is required for the top portion of the ring is of 26 SWG (standard wire gauge), the bottom and the lower portions of the mould are kept of 16 SWG as illustrated in Figures 8 and 9. Once the molten brass is poured into the mould, the cooling of the molten brass and its acquiring solid state takes approximately 10 minutes where after the moulds are opened and the brass rings with width specification as desired are taken out.
We now have a brass ring having variable width (SWG specification) at the top and the bottom. Thereafter the brass ring, which is in a crude form, is subjected to manual cleaning and mould residues are cleaned and removed. Thereafter the ring is put on to the collates of a lathe machine and thereafter the tool of the lathe machine does the smoothening of the inside rough
surface of the ring. Once the inner surface of the ring is smoothened, the outer surface of the ring is also subjected to smoothening process by the collates of the lathe machine. While the ring is subjected to smoothening with lathe machine, a great emphasis is laid upon maintaining the accurate width/SWG level of the top and the bottom portion of the ring. Thereafter the rings are subjected to hand press where the J-section, which is the section where the bulb is fixed into the ring, are cut as per the standard specification (4 mm).
Thereafter, instead of as in a conventional ring where there are holes punched into the upper portion of the rings, four rectangular slots which are equidistant are cut on the upper portion of the ring by the hand press. Thereafter the final polishing of the ring takes place so as to even out the rough surfaces, if any, and the ring is ready for use as illustrated in Fig. 10. The utility of the ring, subject matter of this application, is that the J-section will never get twisted or distorted as the ring does not have a joint which can be separated by the stress and also because lower portion of the ring towards the J-section has been deliberately kept thicket in width and gauge as compared to the upper portion which gets fixed to the bakelite holder. This provides life time durability to the ring as compared to the conventional rings which are subjected to frequent distortion and damage leading to loss of the grip of the bulb making the holder useless and needing replacement time and again.






We claim:
1. An improved metal fixture useful for holding electrical bulb comprises a seamless metal cap characterized in that the said seamless metal cap is moulded in a taper section and a pair of oppositely cut J slots in the said metal moulded cap, plurality of equidistant rectangular slots in the upper portion of the said seamless moulded cap.
2. An improved metal fixture as claimed in claim 1 wherein the molded metal sheet is brass.
3. An improved metal fixture as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said metal molded cap can be of concave shape.
4. An improved metal fixture useful for holding electrical bulb substantially herein as described with reference to the drawings accompanying this specification.
