A FUEL ADDITIVE COMPOSITION FOR IMPROVED COMBUSTION AND A METHOD OF LOF LIQULD FUELS PREPARING THE SAME

Abstract (57) Abstract: A fuel additive composition for improved combustion of liquid fuel comprises a solution of a polymer of iso olefins in the molecular weight rangĀ© of 100 to 3000, in a solvent, such as a petroleum solvent. The solution is uniformly dispersed in a fuel in a concentration of 100 ppm to 3 percent by volume of the polymer in the said fuel. PRICE: THIRTY RUPEES

This invention relates to a fuel additive composition for improved combustion of liquid fuels and a method of preparing the same.
The composition proposed herein improves the combustion of liquid fuel mass.
The said fuel additive composition contains a homo- or CO- polymer of is olefins and the said polymer rapidly disintegrates at the bulk fuel temperature in the combustion zone, atomizing the fuel and enhancing the air-fuel mixing.
The enhanced air-fuel mixing reduces emission levels of smoke, particulates and carbon monoxide in the exhaust.
The letdown of carbon on the injection nozzle and burner tips is also reduced. Disintegration of the additive again helps to reduce knocking when used in an engine.
The fuel additive composition for improved combustion of liquid fuels, according to this invention,

comprises a solution of a polymer of iso olefins in the molecular weight range of 100 to 3000, in a solvent, such as, a petroleum solvent, the said solution being uniformly dispersed in a fuel in a concentration of 100 ppm to 3 percent by volume of the polymer in the said fuel.
Example:
additive for diesel engine was prepared by dissolving 0.4 litres of polyisobutylene of average molecular weight of 1300 in 0.6 litres of a petroleum solvent (mineral turpentine oil of 0.796 density at 15 deg C, distilling between 176 deg C and 230 deg C). The additive was added at 1 volume per cent to diesel and tested in a single cylinder, four stroke, air-cooled, vertical, direct injection diesel engine with a rated power of 4.4 KW at 1500 rpm, coupled to a Benz Eddy current Dynamometer for torque measurements. Smoke emission was measured by a standard Bosch smoke measuring apparatus. The improvements in Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC), exhaust temperature and smoke, observed during the test are tabulated hereunder:

The terms and expressions in this specification are of description and not of limitation, there being no intention in the use of such terms and expressions of excluding any equivalents of the features described, having regard to the scope and ambit of this invention.
