Full Text | This invention relates to a plastic flushing cistern and a method of manufacturing the same. The known plastic flushing cistern comprises a tank body and a lid. The lid and the tank body are separate units, being molded separately. The lid is placed on top of the tank body to close the cistern. The lid is removable to open the cistern. The main disadvantages of the known plastic flushing cistern are: *Since two moldings will have to be carried out, one for the tank body and the other for the lid, the cost of the end product is high. ♦Since the tank body is larger than the lid, color matching is never perfect. *Since the material of moulding is plastic, the lid does not sit properly on the tank body. This invention proposes to eliminate the abovementioned drawbacks, as will be clear from the following further description thereof given hereunder. The plastic flushing cistern, according to this invention, comprises a tank body and lid made of a plastic material, characterised by a flexible strip made of the plastic material and attached to the tank body and lid, by moulding the tank body, lid and strip all together in one mould, whereby the strip serves as an integral hinge about which the lid is movable, with respect to the tank body, to close and open the said cistern. This invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate, by way of example, one of the various possible embodiments of the flushing cistern proposed herein, Fig.l. illustrating the tank body, lid and strip in side elevation Fig.2 illustrating the tank body, lid and strip in plan and Fig.3 illustrating the detail at "A" in Fig.2 The tank body T and lid L of the plastic flushing cistern are moulded from the same plastic material, in one die. The tank body T and the lid L are moulded together, in the same die, along with a flexible strip S made of the same plastic material, whereby, after moulding, the strip S will serve as an integral hinge, enabling the lid L to be changeably moved with respect to the tank body T, to close and open the said cistern. The term "plastic material" in this specification means and includes all those plastics which are good in flexion, since it is necessary that the strip S should flex well. Preferably, such "plastic material" should be selected from plastics which tend to become stronger on repeated flexion e .g .polypropylene (photopolymer or copolymer ). The salient advantages of this invention are: *A single mould suffices, thereby reducing cost *As a result of the hinge provision, the lid sits well on the tank body *The color matching of the tank body and lid is cent per cent *By reason of the aforementioned construction, the rigidity of the cistern is enhanced. The terms and expressions in this specification are of description and not of limitation, it being understood that various other embodiments of the invention proposed herein are possible without departing from the scope and ambit thereof. We Claim: l.A plastic flushing cistern comprising a tank body and lid made of a plastic material, characterised by a flexible strip made of the plastic material, attached to the tank body and lid, by moulding the tank body, lid and strip all together in one mould, whereby the strip serves as an integral hinge about which the lid is hingeably movable, with respect to the tank body, to close and open the said cistern. 2.A plastic flushing cistern as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the plastic material is polypropylene (homopolymer or copolymer). 3.A plastic flushing cistern substantially as herein described with reference to, and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawings. A method of manufacture of a plastic flushing cistern as claimed in Claim 1, whereby the tank body and lid of said cistern are moulded from the same plastic material in one die, the said tank body and lid being attached to each other, during moulding, by a flexible strip of the said material, such that the said strip, after moulding, serves as an integral hinge, about which the lid is hingeably movable with respect to the said tank body, to close and open the said cistern. 5.A method of manufacture of a plastic flushing cistern substantially as herein described with reference to, and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawings. |
